Tesla scrutinized by US Senate Democrats for autopilot misuse

Two Senate Democrats are urging federal regulators to take “corrective actions” against Tesla to prevent further misuse of the company’s advanced driver assist feature. The request comes in the aftermath of a fatal crash in which two men from Texas were killed after their Tesla Model S crashed with no one in the driver’s seat. In a letter sent to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Acting Administrator Steven Cliff, Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) implored the agency to determine the exact cause of this recent crash to “better inform” future legislation around advanced driver assist systems like Tesla’s Autopilot. “We strongly urge you to conduct a complete investigation into Saturday’s fatal Tesla vehicle crash and develop recommendations for improving a...

The poll surveyed 1,126 registered voters between April 6th and 13th. 22% of respondents said they’d vote for someone other than Abbott or McConaughey, and the margin of error was plus or minus 2.92%. While the numbers are certainly encouraging for the Academy Award-winning actor, the trick may be what party’s banner he d...

Austin Venues Announce Unified Safety Protocols As Texas Ends Mask Mandate and Reopens

On March 10th, the state of Texas ended its mask mandate and allowed most businesses to reopen at 100% capacity. But many experts think it’s too early to do so, and in response, over 30 Austin venues and businesses have banded together to announce the new initiative Safe in Sound, committing to following CDC guidelines and protecting patrons from COVID-19. Stubb’s, ACL Live, Antone’s, Mohawk, Paramount Theatre, Empire Control Room, and Zach Theatre are among the pledged venues. “This program as a whole u...

Bun B kept it real trill on Instagram after Abbott’s ridiculous decision to lift the mask mandate put in place to protect Texans from COVID-19 and allowing businesses to open at 100% capacity despite numerous warnings from health officials. In a caption along with a video featuring a fully-vaccinated Abbott happily making the bonehead announcement, in a room of maskless individuals, the rapper directly called out the governor, “This is bat shit crazy @govabbott, and you know it. As if you didn’t already have enough blood on your hands. SMFH.”  Abbott’s announcement comes on the he...

Mariachi Band Trolls Ted Cruz Outside His Houston Home

Senator Ted Cruz may not have been able to carry out his tone-deaf vacation to Cancún, but some residents of Texas made sure that Mexico came to him. As The Independent reports, a Mariachi band held a lively performance outside of Cruz’s Houston home on Sunday, because as one organizer put it, “No one should go to Cancún and not listen to Mariachi.” Cruz, who is responsible for approximately 90% of the terrible haircuts in the Senate and at least 10% of its jowls, flew to Cancún on Wednesday, February 17th. The timing struck almost everyone as less than ideal, given that his home state of Texas had been rocked by catastrophic winter storms. With millions snowed-in without water or electricity, Cruz used the powers of his office to arrange a police escort to the airport and made a beel...

Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-N.J., tested positive on Monday while experiencing mild symptoms, and said in a statement that she believes she caught the virus from her fellow lawmakers while hunkering down as Capitol Police struggled for hours to contain a Trump-inspired mob attack on the Capitol. Lawmakers were trapped in a room near the Capitol with hundreds of others, in some cases for hours, where at least one person who later tested positive for the coronavirus was present. The Office of the Attending P...
