HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Stephen Shugerman / Getty Sorry kiddos, but it looks like the highly-anticipated The Boondocks reboot that we were all looking forward to will not be happening after all. According to The Wrap it’s a wrap for the planned HBO Max revival of Aaron McGruder’s beloved comic book strip turned animated series. It was announced back in 2019 that The Boondocks would be making a comeback on HBO Max on a two season deal with 2020 being the target year for the official return. After being pushed back a few times, the show was declared dead by one of the voice actors who was going to be working on the show. The Boondocks Reboot Canceled at HBO Max

Cross The Boondocks off your list of upcoming television revivals. According to Deadline, HBO Max’s planned reboot of the animated series has been officially been canceled. Showrunner Aaron McGruder and Sony Pictures Animation first announced a Boondocks revival in 2019, and the show was supposed to premiere in Fall 2020 with a 50-minute special. Back then, McGruder said the two-season reboot would see Huey, Riley, and Granddad Freeman navigate an upper class Maryland community. Per usual, what seemed idyllic and harmonious would prove toxic and dangerous, as the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus would have imparted a neo-fascist regime on the suburban town. While it’s unclear why production stalled on the project, Sony is reportedly evaluating other options for the series. Advertisement R...

‘The Boondocks’ Premiere On HBO Max Pushed Back, Again

Source: WarnerMedia / HBO Max HBO Max is poised for a helluva 2021 as they’re slated to release a gang of films that were meant to premier in movie theaters around the world, but unfortunately the highly anticipated return of The Boondocks might have to wait a bit longer to join that party. ComicBook.com is reporting that the return of the beloved Aaron McGruder comic strip turned cartoon series has once again been pushed back after already being delayed due to the pandemic of 2020, when it was supposed to premier. The confirmation that the project is still on track for a 2021 release comes from a column at TVLine, where a viewer asked what had ever happened to the 2020 release date. The release date remains non-specific (“later in 2021” could be any one of 11 months, after all) and t...

Adult Swim Pulls The Boondocks, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Episodes over “Cultural Sensitivities”

Several episodes of the Adult Swim series Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Boondocks, and The Shivering Truth have been “permanently retired due to cultural sensitivities,” The Daily Beast has learned. The Adult Swim archives are part of the massive library offered by new streaming service HBO Max. But certain controversial episodes didn’t migrate over. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is missing the Season 6 shocker “Shake Like Me”, in which Shake is bitten by a radioactive Black person, the experience of which changes his appearance and behavior to be more stereotypically Black. ATHF also arrived without the incomplete Season 5 episode “Boston”, which is a parody of a real-life bomb scare caused by the guerrilla marketing campaign for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film...
