Whew Chile The Shade: Jill Scott Seemingly Responds To Jaguar Wright’s Accusations

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Jaguar Wright is known for her amazing voice, but as of late, her notoriety has come from the bubbling hot tea that she has spilling on major players in the game. While many have remained silent publicly, it seems that Jill Scott has joined Erykah Badu with a seemingly indirect response to Wright and her claims. As previously reported, Jaguar Wright previously called out her former crew The Roots over alleged ill-treatment of Malik B, prior to his passing, among other things. The Philadelphia-bred singer also came at Common, who she claimed sexually assaulted her while they were in a relationship, before apologizing to Tiffany Haddish for the accusation. While The Roots were the initial target, the “Let Me Be the One” singer also set her crosshairs on Soulqu...

Phish’s Trey Anastasio Was the First Late-Night TV In-Studio Guest Since March

Phish singer Trey Anastasio has had a busy year — even in quarantine. Phish released a new album, Sigma Oasis, earlier this year and while alone in New York City, Anastasio put together a solo album titled Lonely Trip. On Tuesday night, Anastasio became the first in-studio guest on a late-night show since the coronavirus pandemic fully took hold of society in March. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Anastasio and the Roots tore through a version of the Lonely Trip track “I Never Needed You Like This Before.” The performance, socially-distant of course, took place in Studio 6A rather than the customary 6B due to spacing. Upon entry into the building (with just his guitar and amp in hand), SPIN has learned, Anastasio had to take a COVID-19 test on site. He test...

During the Live, Wright alleges that Common sexually assaulted her while the two were allegedly dating. According to the songstress, the two were in bed after a show and Common asked for sex, which she declined. “Gotdamn Common. Next thing I know, we go to bed and he’s like, ‘C’mon Jag.’ I’m like ‘No, no, no. I’m tired n*gga,” Jaguar Wright recalled. “I was on the stage all night. I want to lay down.’ I laid down with my clothes on. I’m a rape surv...

Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty OkayPlayer collective member Jaguar Wright may have been off the radar for a few years, but after the untimely passing of her “brother”, The Roots co-founding member Malik B, she’s breaking her silence on why she hasn’t been around publicly. Taking to Instagram Live, Jaguar Wright spoke about the shocking death of Malik B, alleging that despite the public and seemingly heartfelt reactions and condolences,  Black Thought and Questlove weren’t keeping it real about their behind the scenes actions towards their fellow member. “Ya’ll all online talking about respect the family and this and that, but you didn’t respect your brother enough to come get him when he was doing bad,” Jaguar Wright said. “Y’...

The Roots co-founder Malik B. died earlier on Wednesday at the age of 47. After his cousin, Don Champion, delivered the news, tributes from the music community began to pour in, but none were as powerful as those from his former Roots bandmates. Black Thought and Questlove remembered Malik B. — who was in the group from 1987-1999 and made a few sporadic appearances in the 2000s — but in different fashions. Black Thought honored the memory of Malik in a solemn Instagram post. “We made a name and carved a lane together where there was none. We ressurected [sic] a city from the ashes, put it on our backs and called it Illadelph. In friendly competition with you from day one, I always felt as if I possessed only a mere fraction of your true gift and potential. Your steel sharpened my steel as ...

Billy Idol Joins Jimmy Fallon and the Roots for ‘Social Distancing Remix’ of ‘Dancing With Myself’

Quarantine is causing everyone to question…well, everything. That includes reworking classic songs to reflect these times. On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, Billy Idol showed up to perform a “social distancing remix” of his classic ’80s power anthem “Dancing With Myself.” The song has certainly taken on new meaning in recent months, that’s for sure. Joined by Jimmy Fallon, the Roots and their at-home instruments, it was definitely a…different version of the song. In February, Idol joined New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio in a campaign to fight the unnecessary idling of cars in the city. “When I heard about this campaign it just made sense,” Idol said at the time. “It’s amusing but also very serious.” Check it out below.
