The following acts released quality albums in May 2022 alone: Radiohead off-shoot The Smile, Kendrick Lamar, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Sharon Van Etten, The Black Keys, Florence + the Machine, Harry Styles — we’ll stop there for space reasons. It’s been such a wild music year so far, only some of them made the following list. Maybe 2022 was just front-loaded and the final six months will be less eventful. Less than two weeks ahead of Coachella, the festival has confirmed that Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd will headline in lieu of Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. The “Moth To A Flame” collaborators will perform in the festival-closing slot on Sunday night of each weekend, April 15-17 and April 22-24. It’s worth noting that the day’s three top-billed acts—Swedish House Mafia, The Weeknd and Doja Cat—are all managed by Wassim “Sal” Slaiby’s SalXCo firm. The Weeknd to Join Swedish House Mafia at Coachella, Replacing Kanye West
And there you have it. The Weeknd will be joining Swedish House Mafia next Sunday at Coachella. The combination will replace Kanye West, who dropped out earlier this week. Coachella is teasing it as a party/after-party. Probably that it will be a Weeknd set followed by a late Swedish House Mafia set. That would be similar to 2012 when the Swedish trio went on after the Black Keys’ headlining set. Either way, the festival moved fast and enlisted a headliner that will appeal to its audience. A lot of names were floating earlier in the week, but this seems like the most logical conclusion considering The Weeknd’s stadium headliner stature and his history with the festival.
