Them Crooked Vultures Reunite at Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert

Rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures reunited tonight (Sept. 3) during the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at London’s Wembley Stadium for its first live performance since 2010. Following a pre-recorded introduction by Elton John, the trio — comprised of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums, Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones on bass and Queens Of The Stone Age leader Josh Homme on vocals — played John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Gunman” and Queens Of The Stone Age’s “Long Slow Goodbye” with assistance from guitarist Alain Johannes, who was a member of the band’s touring incarnation. Greg Kurstin also lent a hand on keyboards. Them Crooked Vultures released a lone self-titled album in 2009 and have long discussed making more music together, but none has yet materialized. Nandi Bushell Answers Dave Grohl’s Challenge, Plays Them Crooked Vultures’ ‘Dead End Friends’

Over the weekend, Dave Grohl answered 1o-year-old phenom Nandi Bushell’s challenge to a drum-off and played Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” —  which he said he hasn’t played since originally recording it. He then busted out “Dead End Friends” by Them Crooked Vultures. Grohl finished it by playfully challenging Bushell to respond. And she did. In a new video posted to her YouTube channel, Bushell (dressed just like Grohl) took on “Dead End Friends”, which features the phrases “Grohl rocks” and “Rock for equality” with the Os turned into peace signs. To up the ante even more, the young musician imitated nearly every move the Foo Fighters frontman did as well. After powering through the tune, Bushell screamed “CHECKMATE!” She continued by saying “The rock Gods are smiling upon us.” Up...

Watch Josh Homme’s Acoustic Take on Them Crooked Vultures Song

Josh Homme dusted off a Them Crooked Vultures deep cut during Lollapalooza’s virtual festival on Thursday, playing a solo acoustic version of “Spinning in Daffodils.” The Queens of the Stone Age frontman, sporting a regal mustache and beard, tackled the track in a backyard-type setting, cranking out dusty, knotty riffs on his Gibson. Homme was introduced by Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell, whose former band Porno for Pyros reunited for the first time in over two decades to play a brief acoustic set. “Spinning in Daffodils” appears on Them Crooked Vulture’s 2009 debut LP, which features the core power trio of Homme, Dave Grohl, and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. According to Setlist, they performed that song 71 times onstage; Homme previously played it twice. Lolla2020, which replace...
