US sanctions 11 entities for aiding Iran’s oil sector

The US imposed sanctions on 11 entities and three executives Thursday for allegedly aiding an Iranian energy firm that was blacklisted in January, and helping Iran export petroleum products . The new designations of companies and executives include six under the Treasury Department’s authorities and five under the State Department. All are based in Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or China. The State Department’s sanctions target Iran-based Abadan Refining Company; China-based Zhihang Ship Management, New Far International Logistics LLC and Sino Energy Shipping; and UAE-based Chemtrans Petrochemicals Trading. President Buhari approves 5,000mts of maize to support poultry industry

Following hardship faced by poultry farmers, President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, approved the release of 5,000 metric tonnes of maize from the National Strategic Grains Reserve, NSGR, to support the Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN, in order to mitigate the challenge of affordability of feed. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director, Information, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Theodore Ogaziechi, where it was also made know that the 5,000 metric tonnes of maize is subsidized at the rate of N90, 000 as against the current market price of N170, 000. Nigerian government not financially able to pay subsidy – minister

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, Thursday, disclosed that the Federal Government was not currently capable, financially, to pay the subsidy. Addressing newsmen men in Abuja, Sylva disclosed that since the introduction of the deregulation policy, the country has saved about N1 trillion. He further disclosed that the Federal Government has concluded plans to merge the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, and the Petroleum Equalisation Fund, PEF, into one agency called The Authority. Premier League terminate £490 million TV deal in China

The Premier League has terminated its TV rights deal with China, its biggest overseas contract, leaving a huge hole in clubs’ finances. The deal with Chinese broadcaster PPTV was worth around £490m and had lasted only one of its three years. The conflict is said to have been around a fee of £160m that the Premier League was owed in March but did not receive. “The Premier League confirms that it has today terminated its agreements for Premier League coverage in China with its licensee in that territory,” a spokesman said on Thursday. “The Premier League will not be commenting further on the matter at this stage.” It is not known if the conflict is based purely on money or involves the escalating political tensions between China and the UK government. Kogi government mourns deceased Attah Igala

Kogi Government has described the death of Attah Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni, as shocking and a colossal loss to the state and Nigeria. This is contained in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, in Lokoja on Sunday. Fanwo stated that the late monarch ruled with great courage and with fear of God during his seven-year stay on the throne. FIFA have called on the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) to halt its election campaign after Didier Drogba’s bid was rejected, a letter seen by AFP on Friday showed. FIF’s election has turned into a soap opera marred by incessant infighting and on Thursday the former Chelsea forward’s candidacy was thrown out as he had only received the official support of two of a required four Ivorian clubs. “We request the suspension of all action in relation to the election process until further notice,” the document dated August 27 and sent to FIF said. Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, says he is critical of the Nigerian army so that they can improve in their fight against insurgency. Zulum said this on Thursday when he commissioned the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace, located in Biu local government area of the state. The institute is named after Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff. The governor has come down hard on the army in recent times. In January, he accused troops of extorting road users. Three men in court over ‘N40.3 million furniture theft’

Sahara Reporters Three men appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday over alleged N40.3 million furniture theft. The police charged Owolabi Sikiru, 43, Adeolu Ojedokun, 34, and Yinusa Ejika, 35 with two counts of conspiracy and stealing. They however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Prosecutor, ASP Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Aug. 8, at South Wood Resources and Services Ltd., at No. 23, Owolewa Str., Surulere, Lagos. He said the defendants who were supposed to deliver furniture to the store, diverted the truckload of the furniture worth about N40m to their personal use and tried to sell them illegally.
