Here comes the sun, because The Beatles are officially on TikTok. The news coincides with the release of the previously-announced special edition reissue of Let It Be, The Beatles’ twelfth and final studio album as a group, which was released in May 1970. TikTok users will now be able to use 36 of the rock band’s most iconic hits to soundtrack their videos, including “Get Back,” “Across the Universe,” and, of course, the ever-popular title track. TikTok will also be home to exclusive content from the recording process of Let It Be, with fans able to watch archival, behind-the-scenes footage of the creation of individual songs from the album as well as interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Your favorite TikTok creators’ videos might soon have a price tag attached. TikTok is opening its arms to the NFT movement with its new TikTok Top Moments initiative, which will see popular creators minting NFTs for auction featuring some of the most recognizable and sharable moments to happen on the platform thus far. According to a press release issued by TikTok, the company sees NFTs as an untapped growth vector in its ongoing efforts to help drive content monetization for creators. The first drop, consisting of six unique one-of-one NFTs, will allow users the potential to buy a historical TikTok moment. One example is Rudy Willingham’s stop-motion cutout video featuring a dancing Lil Nas X. Willingham was tasked with creating 81 unique cutouts—one per frame—in o...
The brainlessness of TikTok and its poisonous culture can ironically be summed up by the name of one of its biggest musical trends: “Oh no.” You know the one. The trend where TikTok users chronicle situations that went horribly wrong—with the exception of the moment they downloaded the app—and soundtrack them with the shrill “oh no” chant. But when the prepubescent buffoons of TikTok aren’t snorting condoms and licking mid-pandemic airplane toilet seats (yes, those were two real “challenges”), they’re inadvertently unearthing some great music. Recommended Articles Joel Fletcher and HOOX have now capitalized on the trend by releasing an EDM version, harnessing the infamous sample taken from The Shangri-Las’ 1960s classic “Rem...
TikTok owner Bytedance is set to bring in screen time caps for Douyin, the Chinese version of the phenomenally successful app, for users under 14 years old as Beijing continues to crack down on the influence of tech companies in the country. According to a report in Bloomberg, Douyin made significant changes to its ‘youth’ mode last week, limiting daily usage time to a maximum of 40 minutes for those aged under 14 and also banning them from accessing the app from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The company has now also rolled out a new youth-orientated version on Douyin, dubbed Xiao Qu Xing or ‘Little Fun Star,’ that, via its algorithm, promotes and prioritizes more educational videos and allows users to like but not upload their own clips. Audius just picked up a massive competitive edge. The blockchain-based streaming platform just announced that they have reached a partnership with TikTok and are currently the sole partner powering the short-form video platform’s “TikTok Sounds” library. It’s no secret that any artist releasing music today wants to be on TikTok. From Lil Nas X to Olivia Rodrigo, TikTok’s potential for breaking artists into mainstream consciousness is undeniable. As CoinDesk notes, a survey from TikTok showed that the majority of its U.S. users (75%), discover new music and artists by using the platform. However, in order for artists to have music distributed to TikTok, they previously needed to have the right distribution partner. But those days are changing. Recommended...
