Black TikTokker’s Are Boycotting ‘Thot Sh*t’ To Put White Users On Blast For Stealing Dance Moves

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz83 It’s no secret. Black people are the sole reason social media is popping. This latest protest on TikTok is proving that point easily. Megan Thee Stallion’s new summer anthem “Thot Sh*t” is tailor-made to go viral on TikTok. The song, which also serves as a clap back to conservative pundits who had something to say about “WAP,” has a catchy hook, plus the instructions for the dance are quite simple. Still, if you noticed, there are no viral moments anywhere featuring Thee Stallion’s latest single, and that’s on purpose. Black creatives on TikTok have grown really tired of not getting the credit for the plethora of dance moves they have created on the app that white users jack without shame and get all recognition for their...

Egyptian TikTok influencer to appeal 10-year trafficking sentence

Egyptian TikTok influencer Haneen Hossam will appeal a 10-year prison sentence handed down by a Cairo court that found her guilty of human trafficking, her lawyer said on Monday. In the latest twist in a nearly year-long saga, the court also fined the 20-year-old Cairo University student 200 000 Egyptian pounds ($13 000) on Sunday for encouraging women to share footage on the video-sharing app in exchange for money. “We will demand restoration of the case proceedings because there are contradictions between the verdict and the merits on which the court’s decision is based,” said lawyer Hani Sameh. “We hope that she can get a reduced jail sentence or an acquittal,” he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. Several women have been accused of “inciting debauchery” for challenging Egypt’s conser...

After he hit fans with the ominous “Supersonic” and then “The Day You Left,” a string-driven track by Poo Bear on which Skrillex received a production credit, the legendary producer is now signaling his next work could be within the stylistic vein of house music.  Fans of Skrillex’s “Chicken Soup” collaboration alongside Habstrakt, or “AGEN WIDA” alongside JOYRYDE will likely find a lot to be excited about in this new tea...

His spot-on impression of the obnoxious cartoon character singing Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and Linkin Park’s “In the End” have each racked up hundreds of thousands of views in just a few days. Ufret launched his TikTok channel with a Cartman cover of Madonna’s “Material Girl”, but it was his second video, his Cartman rendition of Green Day’s “Good Riddance”, that really took off. As of this writing, it’s just shy of 1 million views, with the Linkin Park cover tallying more than 6...

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-31T17:39:58+00:00“>May 31, 2021 | 1:39pm ET At the start of this year, TikTok user Tessica Brown became a viral sensation after using Gorilla Glue clear adhesive spray to hold down her braided ponytail, unaware that it would cause permanent damage. Her original video was both a plea for help and a cautionary warning, but the internet turned it into a meme-turned-shaming session. Thankfully, Brown was eventually helped by a plastic surgeon free of charge, but now she’s up against the next worst thing: a stranger profiting from her pain by way of a song remix sample. Someone named Cocoa Brown has uploaded a song to streaming services called “Bad Idea (Gorilla Glue Girl Remix)”. As ...

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-23T21:31:36+00:00“>May 23, 2021 | 5:31pm ET At the beginning of this week, a random kid named Adrian Lopez announced he was hosting an open-invitation birthday party on Saturday at Huntington Beach, California. The flyer for Adrian’s Kickback spread like wildfire on TikTok and, as is the way things go online, it quickly became one of the most overhyped parties, with high-profile influencers even suggesting they would attend. Unsurprisingly, local police caught wind of the event and promptly broke it up with tear gas and pepper bullets. What began as a simple invite on TikTok — “pop out n celebrate my bday,” reads the flyer for Adrian’s Kickback — wound up drawing thousands of tee...

Liang Rubo, co-founder of ByteDance, is expected to be the new CEO. “Since the beginning of this year, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to better drive real long-term breakthroughs, which cannot simply rely on steady, but incremental, progress,” writes Yiming. He goes on to say that after several months of thinking about this, he has come to the conclusion that transitioning out of the role of CEO, with all of the related day-to-day responsibilities, would enable him to have greater impact on longer-term initiative...

Tom Morello Gives Viral Rage Against the Machine TikTok His Stamp of Approval

Despite pushing back their reunion tour until next year, Rage Against the Machine has been more popular than ever in 2020 and 2021 as protests broke out all over the world, fighting for social justice. While they’ve seen a resurgence, TikTok user @thejacobgivens posted a video that absolutely nails how we all felt when we first heard the band’s song “Freedom” for the first time in 1993. Playing two characters in the clip, Givens exclaims “You DO have to rage against it!” after asking what the band’s name is. The other character then comments that Zack De La Rocha “sounds so ANGRY!” “And now I’m angry about what he’s angry about!” he adds. “I’m angry… but I’m learning.” His mind then gets absolutely blown by the song’s aggressive outro, and it’s something we all can relate to.
