‘He was magnificent’ – Rio Ferdinand drools over Spurs ace, likens him to PL legend

Former Manchester United defender and Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli after his performance against Fulham on Thursday. The 24-year-old was handed a rare start by Jose Mourinho and he justified his manager’s decision with a splendid performance. Alli played a key role in Tottenham’s only goal of the night and he caused all sorts of problems for the Fulham defence with his work rate. Ferdinand has likened the England midfielder’s movement to that of the Premier League legend Frank Lampard. “I thought he had something today I’ve not seen for a while, that running beyond the striker,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport (via Express). “That is how he made his name, that is what excited everybody about him, getting into the box, a bit like...

Premier League preview: Can Arsenal and Tottenham finish ahead of the champions?

The 2020/21 Premier League season rumbles on this weekend, with some eye-catching EPL fixtures scheduled over the next few days. With Manchester City looking nailed on to win the title, attention has switched onto the battle to qualify for Europe. Arsenal have the opportunity to boost their chances when they visit Burnley in the early game on Saturday. A victory at Turf Moor would move the Gunners just three points behind Liverpool, who are currently in seventh place. There are three further games later the same day, with the Midlands derby between Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers the pick of the bunch. Villa are also in the running to bag a European qualification spot but may find it difficult to break Wolves down. There are four fixtures on Sunday, headlined by the Manchester derb...

Tottenham Hotspur record second successive league win following controversial evening at Craven Cottage

Tottenham Hotspur collected an important three points in their bid for European football after grinding out a 1-0 win over relegation strugglers Fulham on Thursday. The Lilywhites dominated large parts of the first-half and should have taken the lead when Heung-min Son’s cross found an unmarked Harry Kane six yards out. However, the forward uncharacteristically nodded straight at Alphonse Areola. Just moments later, Spurs were ahead. Son’s low cross was flicked towards goal by Dele Alli, who found the net via a deflection off Tosin Adarabioyo. Replays showed that Alli’s effort was heading wide, meaning that the goal went down as an own goal. Fulham struggled to create anything of note until first-half injury-time. Josh Maja laid off for Mario Lemina, who blazed over from ten yards out. The...

Premier League fans call for VAR changes after controversial Thursday

VAR has once again taken centre stage after a highly controversial round of Premier League fixtures which saw three goals harshly ruled out. The first came at Craven Cottage in the clash between Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur. On loan striker Josh Maja thought he had netted an equaliser for the home side, only for the cameras to spot a handball by Mario Lemina in the build up. The game ended 1-0 to Spurs. Despite the fact that Lemina’s arms were quite clearly by his side, the goal was chalked off. The handball law states that intent doesn’t matter if a handball leads to a goal – which is a frankly ridiculous rule. Lemina has the ball booted at him and his arms are down by his side, I’m genuinely baffled how they’ve disallowed it. Premier League referees really do have a concerning lack of co...

Predicted Spurs XI: Mourinho to make four changes; 24-year-old dropped

Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday. Spurs returned to winning ways in the league last week after two back-to-back defeats when they won 4-0 against Brighton & Hove Albion. Fulham are in the relegation zone, but the Cottagers have shown recent signs of improvement. They are undefeated in their last five games and have lost just once in their last eight outings. Jose Mourinho is expected to rotate his squad ahead of two other London derbies against Crystal Palace and Arsenal. Gareth Bale was outstanding against Burnley in the last match, hinting at a return to his best. Mourinho claimed in the press conference yesterday that the Welshman will feature against Fulham. Dele Alli has also looked in good shape in recent weeks,...

10 VAR decisions that show Arsenal, Liverpool & other PL clubs are right in asking for better refereeing

The introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in 2019 was heralded as a massive step forward for the Premier League. The days where controversial decisions were made were supposed to become a thing of the past, and football would be a better place for it. However, the reality has proved to be much different, with barely a week going by without some VAR-related nonsense occurring in England’s top flight. Whether it’s diving going unpunished or penalties not being given, VAR has not cleaned up the mistakes many thought it would have upon introduction. We’ve waded our way through the list of VAR decisions in the Premier League to pick out 10 of the most contentious since it was introduced. Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool – October 2019 Liverpool were unstoppable during the 2019...

‘Dip from Jose Mourinho’s side’: Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Fulham vs Tottenham

Popular football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted a win for Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. Spurs will travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham in the Premier League, and Lawrenson has backed a 2-0 win for Jose Mourinho’s side. The north Londoners returned to winning ways last weekend after thrashing Burnley 4-0, with Gareth Bale netting a brace. It was arguably Bale’s best performance since rejoining Spurs on loan from Real Madrid in the summer as Spurs picked up all three points. It was also the first time Mourinho unleashed the front three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Bale, and it paid off. Spurs are six points off fourth-placed West Ham United with a game in hand, and they will be looking to close the gap on other rivals. Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Tottenham were very impressive a...

Gary Neville’s six-word reply to where Kane could end up next season

Tottenham Hotspur are currently six points off the Champions League places with a game in hand, and while they cannot be ruled out as far as a top-four finish goes, Jose Mourinho’s men are not one of the favourites based on current form. Their brilliant Europa League campaign and last weekend’s 4-0 demolition of Burnley do not mask how poor they have been recently, and their most realistic chance of playing in Europe’s elite competition next season will be by winning the Europa League. Former Manchester United star and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville does not think that they will be playing in the Champions League next term if they continue on this current form. When asked by a fan during a Twitter Q & A about where Harry Kane could end up next season, Neville was in no doubt about thei...

‘Big injury’: Mourinho confirms Tottenham man will not play tomorrow

Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday night. Ahead of the match, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso won’t play in the London derby. Mourinho has confirmed that he has just returned from a ‘big injury’, and Spurs will not take any risks with him. The Argentine is training with the squad at the moment, but Spurs will include him when he is ready. Mourinho on Lo Celso: “Training with the team but a big injury. We’re not going to risk yet. In fact we don’t want to risk, we’ll bring him to the team when he is ok. Maybe one or two more weeks. Everybody else ok.” https://t.co/zuHFY5uF6l — Alasdair Gold (@AlasdairGold) March 3, 2021 However, the Portuguese boss has revealed that Garet...

‘Why I came here’ – Gareth Bale says he rejoined Spurs because of two players

Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from successive Premier League defeats at the hands of Manchester City and West Ham United in style, securing a 4-0 victory over Burnley on Sunday to record their 11th win of the campaign. Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho will now hope that his men can reproduce the same level of performance when they play Fulham, Crystal Palace and Arsenal in their next three league games. He may have to stick with his formation against Burnley to get the desired results in those fixtures, though. Gareth Bale started his third league game of the season against Sean Dyche’s men, and it yielded a brace and an assist. The Wales international has played just nine Premier League games for Spurs since arriving on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, and he appeared to finally have r...

Popular pundit hails Rangers star’s all-round game, likens him to Premier League ace

Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has drawn similarities between the Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and the Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane. Phillips has claimed that Morelos has improved his all-round game immensely this season, and he is now more than just a goalscorer. Premier League star Harry Kane has also evolved this term and is now one of the best creators in the side, along with his goalscoring ability. The England international has 22 goals and 14 assists this season. Morelos has shown similar growth for the Scottish outfit, and it was evident against Royal Antwerp in the last round of the Europa League. The Colombian created impressive chances for his teammates over the two legs, and he has managed to develop himself as a footballer in recent months. Phillips sa...

‘Beautiful player to watch’: Danny Murphy gushes over ‘phenomenal’ Tottenham man

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder turned popular football pundit Danny Murphy has showered heaps of praise on Gareth Bale. The Welshman started for Spurs in the Premier League on Sunday and produced a fantastic performance as Jose Mourinho’s side won 4-0 against Burnley. The 31-year-old scored twice and provided an assist and Spurs returned to winning ways in the Premier League. Murphy has suggested that Bale has looked sharper and fitter, and he is getting back to his old best. It’s unfortunate that it has taken him so long to recapture his form. The talkSPORT pundit said that Bale is a ‘beautiful player to watch’ and the link-up play between him, Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura was phenomenal. 🙌 “The performance yesterday and when he came on against #WHUFC was e...
