Fashion just can’t get enough of the biggest trends of the ’90s, and neither can we. First slip dresses returned with a vengeance, then strappy sandals became the unofficial shoe of the summer, and now butterflies are surprisingly making a major comeback. This sweet detail was recently worn by Dua Lipa at the 2021 Grammy Awards. The Future Nostalgia singer wore a Versace dress featuring a crystal butterfly on the bodice that instantly took over our timelines. On the catwalks, butterflies were spotted all over Temperley London and Zimmerman’s spring/summer 2021 collections. But thanks to Instagram’s style set, butterflies have been making an appearance on all things clothes, and accessories, and even beauty. Who could forget those ubiquitous butterfly clips of the ...
Chanel hosted its autumn/winter 2021 show in Paris’s restaurant Castel, which boasts many small rooms that models walked through like being filled in a tiny house. While the presentation itself was made in black and white, the collection was full of tweed textures, quilted outerwear, and pops of fuchsia, cobalt, yellow, and lilac. “This collection is a mix of two influences,” said Chanel creative director Virginie Viard in a press statement. “The ambiance of ski holidays, which I adore, and a certain idea of cool Parisian chic, from the 1970s to now.” Layers of jewellery, gorgeous tweed coats, embroidered quilted outerwear, and ski salopettes are the focus of Chanel’s autumn/winter collection. Viard continues to play with the neon colour palette of sprin...
London Fashion Week showed us how much the characters of our favourite series are inspiring the way we want to dress. London’s autumn 2021 season is filled with members fit for a royal court — harlequin jesters, modern debutantes, and ballerinas who are also very badass. We scanned 13 of our favourite collections from London’s most influential designers and picked six fresh fashion trends for updating your autumn wardrobe. Bridgerton recently collaborated with the British Fashion Council, and the modern period drama’s fashion influence is just getting started. At London Fashion Week February 2021, we saw so many fabulous characters of court, from corset-wearing punk debutantes at Vivienne Westwood, to Nigerian eclectics at Tolu Coker, and ballerina-pink bustiers at Marque...
We all love musing over designer brands, but midluxury fashion is our true weakness. With the advent of social media, discovering unique independent clothing brands is easier than it’s ever been. Almost weekly, we discover an online shop selling a statement dress that captures exactly how we feel. So just in case you are wondering which brands are in style in 2021, we made a list of some of our favourites. Much of the beautiful clothes on our social feeds are designed by independent shops located here in the UK, with a few from the US, France, Spain, Sweden, and Denmark. Each of these small brands offer a unique take on the zeitgeist of the moment — including puff-sleeve dresses, oversize collars, patchwork pieces, sheer fits, and period drama-inspired silhouettes to fill every fashi...

Victoria Beckham presented its autumn/winter 2021 fashion show at London’s Hayward Gallery, located in the Southbank Centre on Saturday, 13 Feb. Continuing the brand’s theme of strong tailoring paired with delicate dresses, VB’s new collection is about dressing for comfort and protection in uncertain times. There’s a militant approach to Victoria Beckham autumn 2021, with the theme explored in a palette of navy, red, black, and white with oversize suiting and gold-embossed military-style buttons. The utilitarian theme is meant to complement our need for protection, while also channeling our longing for comfort — as seen in loose-fitting paper bag trousers and more fluid pieces that connect to the delicate side of the VB woman. The bold red and bright pinks of the co...
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy for Nigeria (MTDS) for the period 2020-2023. With the approval, announced during Wednesday’s virtual FEC meeting, the DMO which is saddled with managing the nation’s debt matters, has promised full implementation to support economic development while ensuring that public debt is sustainable. The MTDS is a policy document which provides a guide to the borrowing activities of the government in the medium-term, usually four years. It is recognised as one of the best practices in public debt management and is recommended by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to ensure that public debt management is driven by a well-articulated strategy that is structured to meet a country’s broader mac...
What History Tells Us About How the Coronavirus Pandemic May Change How We Dress in the Future There’s no doubt that COVID-19 has completely changed our lives. But the pandemic will also have a lasting effect on our relationship with fashion. London Fashion Week went digital in 2020, Hanifa sent 3D models down the runway, and loungewear sales have skyrocketed ever since. Since we’ve had nowhere to go, the trend cycle has been completely disrupted. Even once the pandemic (finally) comes to an end, the effects that it will have on the world — and the fashion industry — are sure to linger. Major historical events have always changed the way people dress. The 1918 flu pandemic, the Great Depression, and the Second World War all affected fashion, both during the event and in the yea...
Gold jewellery has grown in popularity in recent years, thanks to brands like Missoma, Orelia, and Astrid + Miyu, who have helped make classic pieces more affordable and accessible through gold plating and the use of brass metals. But what a lot of people don’t know about gold is that the purer forms have an inherently limited supply, and there is a chance that we won’t be able to get much more of it in the future. With an ever-increasing demand, and with mining becoming less economically feasible and sustainable by the day, it’s now more important than ever to facilitate the recycling of gold, something that new jewellery brand Aurum LDN prides itself on. The genius behind Aurumn LDN is Karly Wake, who was born and bred in Leeds, and moved to London in search of opportun...
Nigeria-based fintech solution, NowNow, has said that it will continue to upgrade its services to attune to current realities, such that will drive economic and social growth. Founder of NowNow, Sahir Berry, while speaking on how COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the financial space recently, mentioned that Nigeria needs to strengthen its fintech space more than before. Berry stated that it was important for Nigeria to tap into the trends and prospects of fintech given the country’s large unbanked or underbanked. He added the company recognised this gap in Nigeria, which informed its investment in the space. “In 2017 we identified that one of the two big problems in Nigeria was lack of youth empowerment and financial inclusion. With a population of almost 100 million youths, we found that ac...
