Drowning Pool Announce New Album, Honor Pantera’s Dimebag and Vinnie Paul with Single “Mind Right” Stream
Drowning Pool are returning with the new album, Strike a Nerve, on September 30th. The band has also paid tribute to the late Pantera members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul with the lead single “Mind Right.” Honoring their fellow Texans, the Dallas-based Drowning Pool wrote the song shortly after Vinnie Paul died in 2018. The tight groove-thrash riffing certainly has a Pantera lean, and the vocals of Jasen Moreno shift between harsh and melodic a la Phil Anselmo. “‘Mind Right’ started with the core Drowning Pool sound, then really dug into our southern metal roots,” remarked guitarist CJ Pierce. “This song was written not long after Vinnie Paul died, as a tribute of sorts to him and Dime and a way for us to to honor the impact Pantera had on our local Dallas scene.” Advertisement Related ...

Surviving Motörhead members Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell paid tribute to Lemmy Kilmister at the unveiling ceremony for his statue at Hellfest. Dee, now a member of Scorpions, spoke following his set with the German legends. Campbell would join in for “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” with the two Motörhead members then heading to the base of the massive statue to pay their respects to Lemmy and Hellfest. Wolfgang Van Halen’s band Mammoth WVH paid tribute to Taylor Hawkins on Saturday night (March 26th) in Boston, performing the Foo Fighters classic “My Hero” in honor of the late drummer. Mammoth WVH are currently on a co-headlining tour with Dirty Honey. During the gig at Boston’s Big Night Live, Wolfgang took time out toward the end of the set to address Hawkins’ tragic passing, which occurred a day earlier in Bogotá, Colombia. “We lost somebody really important yesterday,” Wolfgang said from the stage. “And he was a hero to me, and a hero to all of us [pointing to his band], and a hero to countless people out there.
