Dutch Techno Pioneer Lady Aïda Dead at 63

Dutch techno music pioneer, writer, and educator Lady Aïda has passed away at 63. The death of the renowned DJ, whose real name was Aïda Spaninks, was confirmed by Eindhovens Dagblad. Spaninks reportedly had battled breast cancer and passed away after a short illness. Spaninks was instrumental in the Netherlands’ techno scene, throwing parties and DJing at festivals in the 1980s and continuing to perform into her 60s. With a staggering collection of over 50,000 vinyl records, she founded Rebelbass, a DJ school in Eindhoven. She also ran the Rebelbass blog on 3voor12 and wrote a monthly column for Eindhovens Dagblad. Bruce Springsteen Performs at 9/11 20th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony: Watch

Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at the September 11th 20th anniversary remembrance ceremony in Lower Manhattan on Saturday. Following a moment of silence for the victims of the terrorist attack, Springsteen took the stage to perform “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” a song from his latest album, Letter to You. This year the dance music community mourned the loss of Pierce Fulton, a star talent—gone far too soon—whose presence continues to be missed.  In 2014 on this day, September 1st, Fulton released his late-summer smash “Kuaga,” according to the song’s Beatport listing. The music world was shaken today when we learned of the death of Charlie Watts, the longtime drummer for The Rolling Stones. There has been an outpouring of reactions to the passing, with celebrities and peers from Paul McCartney to Questlove sharing messages. Now, two of his surviving bandmates have also paid tribute to Watts. In separate Instagram posts, both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards shared images in memory of their longtime bandmate. The former posted an image of a smiling Watts in action, a fitting way to remember the steady stickman known for his constant beaming behind his kit. Renowned DJ and record producer Ian Carey has died at the age of 46. Legendary Detroit DJ and electronic music producer K-Hand has died at the age of 56. According to Detroit Metro Times, K-Hand, whose real name was Kelli Hand, is hailed as being “the first woman to release an electronic music record before techno grew into an international fascination.” In summer 2017 Hand was officially dubbed “the First Lady of Detroit” by City Council for her pioneering contributions to techno and house music, as well as her “skills within a male-dominated industry.” She was awarded the city’s Testimonial Resolution, a biographical certificate that lists the accomplishments of a person or organization. Slipknot Issue Touching Statement on the Passing of Founding Drummer Joey Jordison, Share Tribute Video

Slipknot have issued a touching statement on the death of founding drummer Joey Jordison, who passed away this week at age 46. The band also shared a tribute video of the late drummer on social media. Jordison was a founding member of Slipknot and played in the band until his departure in December 2013. He later revealed that he suffered from transverse myelitis, a neurological disease that limited his the ability to play the drums. Madison Square Garden tapped Foo Fighters to headline its first full-capacity concert since the beginning of the pandemic. Now, that soon-to-be legendary gig will be all the more special because the band has decided to dedicate it to Andy Pollard, their late stage manager. Pollard passed away early in the morning of June 18th.
