Edo guber: Betsy Obaseki expresses concern over desperation of candidates

Wife of Edo state governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has expressed concern over what she called “deception, desperation and the total lack of self respect displayed by some politicians who are willing to do anything to gain power and have made themselves a laughing stock among the people.” She stated this on Tuesday in Benin, during an interactive session with wives of Enigies (Dukes in Benin Kingdom), over the September 19 gubernatorial election in the state. Mrs. Obaseki said she expected governorship candidates “to campaign and sell their manifesto, rather than tell lies and employ the services of thugs to unleash violence on the people, all because they have nothing to offer.” She charged the women “to judge as mothers whether it is in the best interest of the people to mortgage the future ...

Internet celebrity Mompha files N5 million suit against EFCC over ‘unlawful arrest, detention’

An Internet personality, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly called Mompha, on Tuesday filed a suit seeking to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pay him N5 million as damages for alleged unlawful re-arrest and detention. Newsmen report that Mustapha, who is facing a N32 billion fraud charge, was re-arrested on Friday, (Aug.14) by the EFCC. He was re-arrested when he went to the EFCC Office, Ikoyi, Lagos, to reclaim his five wristwatches, one Apple airpod, one iPhone, eight mobile phones and one pair of sunglasses seized from him by the anti-graft agency in 2019. The visit followed a ruling given by Justice Mohammed Liman on July 24, in which the judge ordered the release of the seized items on the grounds that the EFCC did not list them as exhibits in court. NAICOM releases guidelines of minimum paid-up share capital for insurance companies

File Photo The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) on Tuesday released guidelines for the payment of Minimum Paid-up Share Capital by insurance and re-insurance companies in compliance with the first phase recapitalistion directive deadline of Dec. 31. Mr Pius Agboola, Director, Policy and Regulations, NAICOM, for the Commissioner of Insurance, said that the guidelines were in furtherance to the commission’s earlier circulars referenced /25/2019, dated May 20, 2019, July 23, 2019 and December 30,2019 respectively on the subject matter. Oyo deputy governor empowers 500 youths with farmland

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, has donated 250 acres of land in Oyo North to youths for cassava cultivation. The Coordinator of Oke-Ogun Green Revolution, Mr Bola Olalere, announced the donation in a statement in Iseyin on Tuesday. One dead in fresh Ivory Coast clashes over president’s re-election bid
