Barry Season 3 Review: Bill Hader’s Hollywood Hit-Man Gets Even Darker and More Complex

The Pitch: Coming back after one of the longer pandemic-era delays on record, the third season of Barry is all about consequences. The HBO dramedy has never strayed far from depicting the brutal repercussions of hit-man Barry’s (Bill Hader) decision to attempt transitioning out of the assassination-for-hire game for a new life as an actor. But the stakes feel even higher now, with reason for serious concern not just for the lives of every character in Barry’s circle, but their souls. That means yet more of the brilliantly nuanced character work nurtured by creators Hader and Alex Berg, but also yet more of the show’s unconventional action and fascinating directing choices. With the cast all returning at the top of their game, the only potential concern one might have about the new season o...

Arcade Fire to Join Saturday Night Live’s Five-Timers Club

Arcade Fire are returning to Studio 8H! On Saturday, NBC revealed the rock band will be back on Saturday Night Live for the May 7th episode opposite host Benedict Cumberbatch. It will mark Arcade Fire’s fifth time serving as the show’s musical guest since they made their SNL debut back in 2007. (Side note: is there an equivalent to the Five-Timers Club for musical guests? Do they get jackets, too?) This time, Win Butler and co. will be promoting their latest album WE, which drops on May 6th (the same day Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens in theaters). Lizzo Pulls Double Duty on SNL: The Five Standout Moments

Pulling double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live is both an honor and a curse—often more endurance test than a purely joyful performance. For every Justin Timberlake episode that audiences seem to love (sometimes inexplicably, to be honest), or Miley Cyrus episode that seems to cement the artist’s place in the SNL inner circle, there’s a Halsey episode that feels lucky to escape with a few stray highlights. Singer, songwriter, dancer, producer, actress, and flautist Lizzo seems like an inspired choice for this sometimes-thankless task; though she’s known mainly for music, she has the kind of poise and confidence that translates well to live comedy. Throughout her episode of SNL, she hit her marks with clarity and energy—though the episode itself seemed stuck in Timberla...

R.I.P. Liz Sheridan, Jerry Seinfeld’s TV Mom Dead at 93

Liz Sheridan, the veteran actress who famously played Jerry Seinfeld’s mother on Seinfeld, has died at the age of 93. TMZ reports that Sheridan passed away from natural causes early Friday, April 15th. A native of New York, Sheridan originally got her start on Broadway, including a role in the 1977 musical Happy End opposite Meryl Streep and Christopher Lloyd. After relocating to Los Angeles, she landed a series of bit television parts on series like Newhart, Who’s the Boss, and Family Ties. Related Video Sheridan’s first major TV role came in 1986 as the nosy neighbor Raquel Ochmonek on ALF. Four years later, Sheridan was cast as Jerry’s mother, Helen, on Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David’s beloved sitcom Seinfeld.  Apart from the show’s four principal leads, Sheridan was the only Seinf...

Singles Surge: Will This Week’s Ex On The Beach Twist Ruin Summer?

The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t — sadly, the adage won’t do much good for the Season 5 crop of Ex on the Beach Singles, who learned that a totally unexpected, radar-evading storm surge would soon strike and litter the coastline with new Singles. But what will the new twist mean, exactly, and could it be any more destructive than previous relationship hurricanes? On tonight’s episode, David — in the thick of a pansexual awakening — discovered he’d have to confront the ghost of a girlfriend past before he could continue pursuing other connections. His ex Dani, who arrived suddenly on the beach, said she always genuinely liked David but added his love of sowing wild oats prevented them from ever getting super serious. “David has a pattern and a hi...

Judith Light on the Fascinating Scares of Shining Vale and Why She’s Not Opposed to Auditioning

In Starz’s critically well-received series Shining Vale, the “shit-com” (to quote co-creator Sharon Horgan’s invented term for the genre) blends horror and comedy for an unconventional story about a writer and mother (Courteney Cox) who thinks she’s seeing ghosts. Or she’s experiencing a mental breakdown? That’s just one of the show’s mysteries. The show’s stellar cast includes Cox, Greg Kinnear, Gus Birney, Merrin Dungey, Dylan Gage, and Mira Sorvino, but TV fans might especially spark to the inclusion of Judith Light, whose legendary career on screen and on stage has recently included a number of unforgettable performances in shows including Transparent and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. These days, as the veteran actress tells Consequence, she mostly gets off...

The Crane Family Digs Seattle Rock in Viral “Grunge Frasier” Clip: Watch

Do you think Dr. Frasier Crane ever listened to Pearl Jam? He lived in Seattle in the ’90s, after all. That’s the premise of a parody clip that went viral on Twitter this week, in which comedian Jon Blair imagines the Fraiser cast as hip (well, sort of) to the local music scene. Complete with a fuzzy guitar cover of the opening theme “Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs” (ripped by RJ Satchithananthan), the video begins with Fraiser announcing his plans to see Pearl Jam, “the great cultural crown jewel of Seattle,” live in concert. This proclamation paves the way for the gang to name-drop the grunge Big Four: Niles is a Soundgarden fan, while Martin mistakes Layne Staley for a woman named Allison (get it?). Elsewhere, the eldest Crane suggests his son get into Stone Temple Pilots instead,...

Reminiscing About Real World: Why Danny Wishes Paul Wasn’t Filmed Back In 2000

Danny Roberts documented his relationship with Paul Dill during The Real World: New Orleans in 2000. But when Paul came to visit his then-boyfriend in NOLA, his face had to be blurred. The reason: Paul was serving in the military — when Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was still in existence (Paul’s parents also didn’t know their son’s sexual orientation). But looking back 22 years later, Danny — who will reunite with his roomies on The Real World Homecoming beginning on April 20 on Paramount+ — wishes that he had not featured this very personal part of his life in front of the MTV production. “I think I would have gone back and encouraged Paul not to be on camera,” he admits in the video above when asked if there was anything he would have ...

Roar Star Alison Brie on How GLOW Changed Her Career: “It Just Emboldened Me as a Person”

Alison Brie‘s resume is packed with notable roles, from her breakout performance as Trudy Campbell, Pete Campbell’s spirited and long-suffering wife on Mad Men, her charming six-season run on Community as plucky and eager Annie Edison, and voice work in BoJack Horseman and The LEGO Movie. But as she tells Consequence, perhaps the most seismic project of her career was in GLOW, the Netflix comedy which fictionalized the creation of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling promotion from the 1980s. In the series, created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Brie played Ruth Wilder, one of the operation’s founding wrestlers and creative influences, in a series that met with its share of behind-the-scenes controversies with regard to its treatment of people of color, but was unabashedly feminist in its st...

‘I Don’t Want To Be Friends With You’: Should Juliette Have Written Off Jordana On Siesta Key?

A jet-setting Juliette has returned to Siesta Key from Paris (Dior handbag and matching scarf in tow), and she’s ready to set some boundaries — but not with her ex Sam. During tonight’s episode, Jordana was spending even more time with Sam following his breakup with Jules. And the swimwear designer was more sus than ever that Jordana “ran to be by his side.” And if we’re being honest, Jordana has never been Juliette’s biggest fan, despite her dedication to painting that larger-than-life portrait. “I’m so over hearing Juliette’s name,” she told Sam during a kickboxing therapy session. “You’re a sweet guy, and she knew how to work you. I mean, this is what it is. You’re broken up. You know...

Josh Brolin Meets the Void in Sneak Preview of Prime Video’s Outer Range: Watch

Consequence’s newest TV obsession might very well be Outer Range, the sci-fi neo-Western coming soon to Prime Video. Before its premiere tomorrow, April 15th, the streamer has shared an exclusive two-minute clip from the show as a sneak peek. In this preview, Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) is wandering through his otherwise unassuming Wyoming ranch when he discovers a strange, circle-shaped void. When he tries to put his hand into this supernatural portal, he experiences what appears to be a jarring memory from his past that sets off a series of thrilling events. What does this mean for Royal and the rest of the Abbott family? In case this clip leaves you more confused that curious, here’s the official logline for Outer Range: “At the onset of the series, the Abbotts are coping with the d...
