The Pitch: Series co-creators Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus keep the true-crime story wave going with The Girl From Plainville, an eight-part limited series based on the “texting suicide case.” In 2014, Conrad Roy III died by suicide in Mattapoisett, Massachussets — this tragedy eventually garnered national attention as investigators learned of the role that the teen’s girlfriend, Michelle Carter, played in his death. Roy’s and Carter’s motivations were previously explored in Erin Lee Carr’s 2019 documentary, I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter – and, of course, in all the preceding media coverage of the groundbreaking case. But The Girl From Plainville uses artistic license to venture deeper into the minds of these adolescents, and track how a chance meeting in Flor...
Disney+ recently announced the onboarding of Netflix’s TV-MA Marvel shows, which is great news for fans of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more, but an unaccountable tragedy for the humorless scolds at the Parents Television and Media Council. In a new open letter, the PTC said the decision “violates the trust of families” and suggested carrying such content is a slippery slope to “adding live striptease performances in Fantasyland at Disney World.” The House of Mouse’s streaming platform is adding new parental controls for this more mature content in hopes of heading off criticisms like this. On March 16th, when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders become available to watch, subscribers signing in to Disney+ ...
“You’re familiar with my last two years of life, then,” is how Greg Daniels responded when Consequence told him, at the beginning of a Zoom interview, that I’d seen both new seasons of his current TV shows: The Netflix original comedy Space Force, which he co-created with Steve Carell, and the latest installment of Upload, the futuristic rom-com now making its debut on Prime Video. Both seasons are second seasons consisting of seven episodes each, and both were shot with, as Daniels explains below, a lot of the same crew up in Vancouver, Canada. But while Space Force is a workplace comedy set within a satirical version of America’s newest branch of the armed services, Upload is first and foremost a love story. That’s the element which made Daniels excited about telling the story of a not-t...
The latest installment of the Siesta Key story has begun (and it’s not what anyone expected). A lot went down during tonight’s premiere, and Juliette’s relationship with Sam was at the forefront of the drama — with some major decisions to be made. Just a few months after moving into Sam’s “multimillion-dollar mansion,” the show’s narrator found herself grappling with regret. With her “own career, dreams and aspirations” (aka her red-hot swimsuit label) on the line, she’s ready to break free of the lavish lifestyle — waterfront property and Cartier diamond watches included. “After just moving in with Sam a few months ago, I was thinking about moving out of his beautiful house,” Juliette c...
The Dropout creator Elizabeth (or Liz) Meriwether is pretty open about how, before taking on the story of famed entrepreneur-turned-fraudster Elizabeth Holmes for the Hulu limited series, she didn’t know too much about the world of entrepreneurs, or science. “It was totally new for me,” she tells Consequence in a phone interview. “I had to really learn a lot.” Holmes first became a famous figure as an anomaly in the Silicon Valley tech sphere: a young, conventionally attractive female innovator, whose big ideas for a blood-testing device that could lead to a massive uptick in early detection of medical issues led to magazine covers as well as hundreds of millions of dollars in investment funds. However, her innovative ideas turned out to be based on lies and deception, leading to the end o...
The Pitch: Five seasons into the Netflix animated comedy Big Mouth comes Human Resources, a spin-off dedicated to exploring the workplace antics of Big Mouth’s hormone monsters. Not only does the show feature familiar Big Mouth hormone monsters Maury (voiced by Nick Kroll) and Connie (voiced by Maya Rudolph), as well as The Shame Wizard (voiced by David Thewlis), Love Bugs, and Anxiety Mosquitos, Human Resources also introduces dozens of new characters, including a “Logic Rock” named Pete (voiced by Randall Park), Petra the Ambition Gremlin (voiced by Rosie Perez), and many other fantastical creatures that represent the complex emotions of human beings. Rather than dwell on the pubescent confusion of adolescence, the creatures of Human Resources serve humans of all ages, and throughout the...

A Chicago court has sentenced Jussie Smollett to 150 days in jail and 30 months felony probation. He was also fined him $25,000, and be required to pay $120,106.00 in restitution. Upon hearing the news, he began shouting, “I am not suicidal!” and “I am innocent!” The Empire actor was found guilty in December of five counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report after a 2019 incident in Chicago. These charges each carried a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a penalty of $25,000. He was acquitted on a sixth charge. In handing out the sentence, Cook County Judge James Linn said, “Let me tell you, Mr. Smollett, that there is nothing I can do here today that will come close to the damage that you have already done to your own life. You’ve turned y...

After years of being typecast as different variations of schlubby tattooed men, Pete Davidson has finally landed the ultimate role: himself. Deadline reports that the SNL mainstay will play the lead in a forthcoming series inspired by his own life, tentatively titled Bupkis, with Lorne Michaels producing. Davidson will serve as co-executive producer of Bupkis, which is billed as “a mixture of grounded storytelling with absurd elements” in the vein of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. The comedian is also co-writing the script, alongside frequent collaborator Dave Sirus as well as Judah Miller (Crashing). The series is currently being pitched to various streamers; Prime Video and Peacock are reportedly among those interested. Agents are also apparently seekin...
