Welcome to the Second Age. We’re finally in the same calendar year as the premiere of Amazon’s long-awaited Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, and Vanity Fair has provided the first look at the characters rounding out the show, including Robert Aramayo’s Elrond, Joseph Mawle‘s Oren, Markella Kavenagh’s Tyra, Robert Aramayo’s Beldor, and Morfydd Clark‘s Galadriel. Check out some pictures below. Led by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings films and “unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.” All of this is bas...

Futurama Revived for New Season on Hulu

The beloved intergalactic cartoon Futurama will return in 2023 with 20 new episodes airing on Hulu. Most of the show’s principal voice cast, including Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom), Maurice LaMarche (Kif), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil LaMarr (Hermes), and David Herman (Scruffy), are returning for the upcoming reboot. John DiMaggio, who voices Bender, is not currently attached to the project. Deadline reports that DiMaggio felt the contract offer “was not competitive based on the success and name recognition of of the original series.” The role of Bender is being recast ahead of next week’s first table read, but both DiMaggio and 20th Television Animation are optimistic about an eventual deal, according to Deadline. The Best Way to Enjoy The Book of Boba Fett Is to Embrace the Mess

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett, “Chapter 7: In The Name of Honor.”] The funny thing about The Book of Boba Fett is that a whole lot of people would have been a lot happier if they’d just done something different with the title. While the series started off as a stand-alone tale of the famed bounty hunter’s (Temuera Morrison) transformation into a new kind of crime boss, as seen with Episode 5 the show took an abrupt turn by bringing back famed Space Daddy Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), with the second half of the season serving as a clear sequel to the end of The Mandalorian Season 2. Now that we’ve reached the end of the season, all that’s left to do is try to sort out what, exactly, happened here. Because nothing feels in ba...

Bob Saget Died From Brain Trauma

Bob Saget died from brain trauma, which he reportedly sustained after accidentally hitting the back of his head on an object. The injury caused internal brain bleeding, and while Saget was apparently unaware of its severity, it caused him to pass away in his sleep. Saget’s cause of death was shared by his family in a statement released on Wednesday (February 9th). “Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us,” the family said. “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.” Advertisement Related Video “As we c...

Inventing Anna Review: Shonda Rhimes Reminds Us That She’s the Master of Captivating TV

The Pitch: If there is one constant running through the work of Shonda Rhimes, it’s this: Her instincts for what makes a good story are dead on. Not every show with her name on it is an out-of-the-gate hit like Bridgerton or Grey’s Anatomy — rest in peace, The Catch, a great little show about con artists that deserved more of a chance. But it’s impossible to say that a Shondaland series is ever boring. Speaking of con artists, though… Inventing Anna, the new limited series premiering this Friday on Netflix, represents Rhimes’ first Netflix project that bears her name as not just a producer, but a creator. And you can sense why she chose not to hand this project off to someone else, given how many delicate elements are involved in these nine episodes — primarily, the depiction of its two le...

Amazon Renews Reacher for Season 2

Amazon’s Jack Reacher series is coming back for a second season. Just days after their new adaptation of Lee Child’s beloved book series premiered on Prime Video, the studio has announced that Season 2 of Reacher is on the way. In a press release, Amazon boasted that Reacher, which stars Alan Ritchson as the titular veteran military police investigator, quickly became Prime Video’s top five most-watched series ever in the US and globally. With all eight episodes dropping at once, Amazon also says it’s one of the most binged Original series ever. Written by showrunner and executive producer Nick Santora, Reacher follows Jack Reacher’s transition from the military into civilian life in small-town Georgia, where he inadvertently gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy. It’s bas...

Fox Acquires Gumby, Announces Gumbyverse of New Content

Fox has acquired the rights to Gumby, and they plan to stretch out the claymation classic into a multi-platform Gumbyverse of new content. Created by Art Clokey in the 1950s, Gumby and his friend with bend-efits Pokey have starred in two television series and one feature film. Fox will broadcast existing episodes of The Gumby Show and Gumby Adventures on Tubi, but that’s hardly the extent of their plans. Gumby will star in a new animated series, as well as a live-action (?) film. Besides that, the characters will be rolled up and sold off as action figures, merchandise, and even NFTs. We don’t want to speak for Gumby, but NFTs seem more like a plan cooked up the villainous “G” and “J” Blockheads than something our green hero would endorse. Advertisement Related Video In...

Amanda Seyfried Practices Her Fake Baritone in Trailer for Hulu’s The Dropout: Watch

Over the past few years, Stanford dropout Elizabeth Holmes went from being the country’s youngest self-made female billionaire to one of the most infamous scammers to come up in Silicon Valley. Today, Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for their forthcoming limited drama series The Dropout, which stars Amanda Seyfried as the disgraced Theranos founder and CEO. Premiering March 3rd, The Dropout documents Holmes’ career trajectory from an ambitious chemical engineering student to the defendant in a highly-publicized criminal trial. The trailer nods to plenty of Holmes’ trademarks, from her black turtlenecks, bright red lipstick, and messy buns, to that phony baritone speaking voice. Seyfried doesn’t quite nail Holmes’ low timbre, but we’ll let it slide because it’s important to...

Netflix Unveils Official Trailer for New Series Vikings: Valhalla: Watch

Netflix is going way, way back in time for their next original series. Today, the streamer has shared the official trailer for Vikings: Valhalla, an action-drama series that tells the tale of some of history’s most heroic explorers. Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, and over a hundred years after the events of Michael Hirst’s History Channel series Vikings, Vikings: Valhalla stars Sam Corlett (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Leif Eriksson, Frida Gustavsson as his sister Freydis Eriksdotter, and Leo Suter as Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson. The series sees the trio travel from Kattegat to England and beyond, clashing with English royalty over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs. Above all, the Vikings must fight for their own survival and glory on these t...

Why We’ll Never Stop Talking About NBC’s Smash

An important thing to remember about Smash is that when it premiered, 10 years ago today, the NBC musical drama was supposed to be capital-G Good. We’re talking “awards contender” Good. “All star cast” Good. “Executive produced by Steven Spielberg” Good. Sadly, that didn’t ultimately align with what we got, which was two seasons of the messiest yet ultimately most fascinating broadcast drama of the 2010s — maybe even the 21st century so far. The thing about Smash is, if it had been a total failure, it wouldn’t still occupy space in our mental real estate. But there were just enough glimmers of good TV, aligned with some moments of pure brilliant camp and what is legitimately a top-tier original soundtrack, to ensure its place in television history. Perhaps you missed Smash when it original...
