The replicants keep replicating: Blade Runner 2099, a live-action sequel series to Denis Villeneuve’s stellar 2017 film Blade Runner 2049, which itself was a follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece Blade Runner, is in the works at Amazon Studios. Deadlinereports that Scott will be executive producing, which the man himself had all but confirmed last November when he said the pilot had been written. Now we know the scribe responsible: Silka Luisa, who is currently serving as showrunner for the Starz series Shining Girls starring Elisabeth Moss. As you no doubt guessed from the title, the series is set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049. Blade Runner 2099 is currently staffing its writer’s room, and there’s no casting news or date set for its r...
By Deepa Lakshmin The first thing you notice about Anna Delvey is her accent: husky German vocal fry, faint Russian twist, British-English spoken with the singsong musicality of an American making a name for herself in New York City. Her intonation shifts when she’s negotiating million-dollar business deals or clinking glasses on a yacht in Ibiza — or pleading “not guilty” to multiple felony charges, including grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, and theft of services. “To me, that gave a lot of direction [about] who the character is, just the accent alone,” the actress Julia Garner, who plays Delvey in a new limited series from Netflix, tells MTV News over video chat. “This is somebody that is trying to be something that she’s not.” Critically acclaimed for her role as Ruth Langmore on...
The world of Better Call Saul just got a little more colorful. AMC has shared a preview clip of Slippin’ Jimmy, a new animated spinoff series that follows Jimmy McGill years before he started calling himself Saul Goodman. Slippin’ Jimmy will have a six-episode run sometime this spring. Produced by Rick and Morty animators Starburn Industries, and written by BCS veterans Ariel Levine and Kathleen Williams-Foshee, the show will be a highly stylized take on Jimmy’s youth in Chicago, Illinois. Chi McBride, Laraine Newman, and Sean Giambrone are among the vocal talent. The overall aesthetic is inspired by 1970s cartoons, but each episode will also be an ode to a classic movie genre, from the silent slapstick of Buster Keaton to the atmospheric horror of&n...
Last year, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey resurrected Wayne and Garth for a Wayne’s World-themed Super Bowl commercial. For this year’s Big Game, Myers has brought back another one of his beloved characters — Dr. Evil. Myers stars alongside fellow Austin Powers cast members Seth Green, Rob Lowe, and Mindy Sterling in a new commercial for General Motors. To be honest, the premise is pretty dumb: Dr. Evil has made GM headquarters his new evil lair, and intends to use the company’s “Ultium Platform” to power his whole operation… while reducing carbon emissions. “I will help save the world first, then take over the world,” declares Dr. Evil. Welcome to the Second Age. We’re finally in the same calendar year as the premiere of Amazon’s long-awaited Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, and Vanity Fair has provided the first look at the characters rounding out the show, including Robert Aramayo’s Elrond, Joseph Mawle‘s Oren, Markella Kavenagh’s Tyra, Robert Aramayo’s Beldor, and Morfydd Clark‘s Galadriel. Check out some pictures below. Led by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings films and “unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.” All of this is bas...
The beloved intergalactic cartoon Futurama will return in 2023 with 20 new episodes airing on Hulu. Most of the show’s principal voice cast, including Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom), Maurice LaMarche (Kif), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil LaMarr (Hermes), and David Herman (Scruffy), are returning for the upcoming reboot. John DiMaggio, who voices Bender, is not currently attached to the project. Deadline reports that DiMaggio felt the contract offer “was not competitive based on the success and name recognition of of the original series.” The role of Bender is being recast ahead of next week’s first table read, but both DiMaggio and 20th Television Animation are optimistic about an eventual deal, according to Deadline. [Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett, “Chapter 7: In The Name of Honor.”] The funny thing about The Book of Boba Fett is that a whole lot of people would have been a lot happier if they’d just done something different with the title. While the series started off as a stand-alone tale of the famed bounty hunter’s (Temuera Morrison) transformation into a new kind of crime boss, as seen with Episode 5 the show took an abrupt turn by bringing back famed Space Daddy Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), with the second half of the season serving as a clear sequel to the end of The Mandalorian Season 2. Now that we’ve reached the end of the season, all that’s left to do is try to sort out what, exactly, happened here. Because nothing feels in ba...
Bob Saget died from brain trauma, which he reportedly sustained after accidentally hitting the back of his head on an object. The injury caused internal brain bleeding, and while Saget was apparently unaware of its severity, it caused him to pass away in his sleep. Saget’s cause of death was shared by his family in a statement released on Wednesday (February 9th). “Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us,” the family said. “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.” Advertisement Related Video “As we c...

The Pitch: If there is one constant running through the work of Shonda Rhimes, it’s this: Her instincts for what makes a good story are dead on. Not every show with her name on it is an out-of-the-gate hit like Bridgerton or Grey’s Anatomy — rest in peace, The Catch, a great little show about con artists that deserved more of a chance. But it’s impossible to say that a Shondaland series is ever boring. Speaking of con artists, though… Inventing Anna, the new limited series premiering this Friday on Netflix, represents Rhimes’ first Netflix project that bears her name as not just a producer, but a creator. And you can sense why she chose not to hand this project off to someone else, given how many delicate elements are involved in these nine episodes — primarily, the depiction of its two le...
Amazon’s Jack Reacher series is coming back for a second season. Just days after their new adaptation of Lee Child’s beloved book series premiered on Prime Video, the studio has announced that Season 2 of Reacher is on the way. In a press release, Amazon boasted that Reacher, which stars Alan Ritchson as the titular veteran military police investigator, quickly became Prime Video’s top five most-watched series ever in the US and globally. With all eight episodes dropping at once, Amazon also says it’s one of the most binged Original series ever. Written by showrunner and executive producer Nick Santora, Reacher follows Jack Reacher’s transition from the military into civilian life in small-town Georgia, where he inadvertently gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy. It’s bas...
Fox has acquired the rights to Gumby, and they plan to stretch out the claymation classic into a multi-platform Gumbyverse of new content. Created by Art Clokey in the 1950s, Gumby and his friend with bend-efits Pokey have starred in two television series and one feature film. Fox will broadcast existing episodes of The Gumby Show and Gumby Adventures on Tubi, but that’s hardly the extent of their plans. Gumby will star in a new animated series, as well as a live-action (?) film. Besides that, the characters will be rolled up and sold off as action figures, merchandise, and even NFTs. We don’t want to speak for Gumby, but NFTs seem more like a plan cooked up the villainous “G” and “J” Blockheads than something our green hero would endorse. Advertisement Related Video In...
