Netflix Strikes Reality Television Gold with Season Two of the Trendy, Bubbly The Circle: Review

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-18T19:50:25+00:00“>April 18, 2021 | 3:50pm ET The Pitch: Against all odds, in one of its many, many endeavors to try and become the premiere destination for streaming content, Netflix has ended up as one of the most surprising forces in reality television. Between the national treasure/’90s revival Queer Eye, the Malibu moguls on Selling Sunset, and the charmingly inept Nailed It, Netflix hosts a remarkably diverse array of reality shows at its viewers’ fingertips. There’s one reality series, though, that rises above the rest — the rare bird that’s not only a great reality show, but a timely, vibrant one with a truly exciting premise. I’m talking, of course, about The Circle, whi...

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Cost $465 Million for Season 1 Alone

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-16T19:15:29+00:00“>April 16, 2021 | 3:15pm ET Amazon Studios has already made it clear that they’re betting big on their original Lord of the Rings series, giving it a second season renewal before even completing the first one. It looks as if they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is, too, as reports indicate they’re planning to send roughly $465 million on just Season 1 alone. The figures were initially made public as part of the New Zealand government’s Official Information Act. The series is currently filming in the country, and officials revealed Amazon is anticipating spending NZ$650 million (which converts to $465 million US) on the first season. When local pu...

R.I.P. Felix Silla, Actor Who Played Cousin Itt on The Addams Family Dead at 84

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-17T01:39:45+00:00“>April 16, 2021 | 9:39pm ET Felix Silla, who famously portrayed Cousin Itt on the 1960s TV sitcom The Addams Family, died Friday (April 16th) at the age of 84 from pancreatic cancer. Silla was never actually seen on The Addams Family during its two-season run between 1964 and 1966. Rather, the 3’11” actor wore a full-body hairpiece, sunglasses, and a bowler hat. He was also unintelligible to the audience, as his rapid gibberish could only be understood by The Addams Family members themselves. Due to his small stature, Silla also landed roles in Return of the Jedi as an Ewok, in Spaceballs as a Dink, and in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century as t...

New Episode of The Simpsons to Spoof Morrissey

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-15T18:27:35+00:00“>April 15, 2021 | 2:27pm ET This weekend’s episode of The Simpsons will have some fun at the expense of The Smiths and their cantankerous frontman Morrissey. As Exclaim points out, Sunday’s episode “Panic on the Streets of Springfield” sees Lisa become obsessed with a certain “depressed British singer from the 1980s”. While the episode’s synopsis does not cite Morrissey by name, a teaser image shared by writer Tim Long confirms the obvious: the character is indeed inspired by The Smiths’ former singer. Sadly, Big Mouth himself was apparently unavailable or unwilling to voice the character, so The Simpsons recruited another notable Brit in his place: actor Benedi...

Challenge Final: Can Kaycee Convince Fessy To Keep Fighting For The Win?

The Double Agents final mission kicking off on the precipice of a wild windstorm was no coincidence. Kaycee — one of the presumed Challenge front-runners — has so far borne the brunt of the storm. And as the last leg of Season 36 commences, the question lingers: Can she survive the hurricane? After Kyle’s elimination from the game at the hands of Fessy and the cementing of the final four Double Agents teams, the game’s remaining eight players met host TJ Lavin at the base of an Icelandic footrace for the final mission. Raging winds littered the course with airborne sand and brush, and as the players set off onto the first leg — a three-mile race to an inaugural checkpoint — they struggled to stay upright. “We have never done a final at the tail end of a hurricane, but there’s a first for e...

Netflix’s Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! Falls Short as a Hip Family Sitcom: Review

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-14T23:51:28+00:00“>April 14, 2021 | 7:51pm ET Meet the Family: Before Netflix’s new sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! premiered today, early trailers provided high hopes for the premise. At an initial glance, the series — created and starring comedian Jamie Foxx as Brian Dixon — revolved around a widowed father attempting to catch up with his Gen-Z daughter, Sasha (Kyla-Drew). Sure, it relied on a common-but-true trope of young women viewing their aging, out-of-touch parents as humiliating, but it also appeared to highlight impactful and sweet moments between them. Foxx’s relationship with his daughter, Corinne, now 27, served as the inspiration for the show’s scenes. While Corinn...

‘Difficult And Heartbreaking’: Teen Mom OG‘s Catelynn Reveals Second Miscarriage

Catelynn endured a miscarriage two years ago and chronicled the traumatic event on Teen Mom OG. Now, during tonight’s season finale, Cate found out she was pregnant and soon after shared a “super hard” and “heartbreaking” update. “I woke up from a nap today, and I was bleeding, so we miscarried this baby,” she shared in a diary cam. “This now is my second miscarriage. It’s hard, period. Anybody that’s been through it knows how difficult and heartbreaking that it is.” Cate reflected on her first miscarriage and how she felt the trauma of “losing a child” all over again after being 16 and pregnant and outlining an adoption plan for Carly. “I think the only thing that’s different this time around is obvi...

These Challenge Competitors Are Still Waiting For A Win

Sponsored If Aneesa hasn’t given up after 14 seasons, nobody has an excuse 2h ago If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Or if you’re like a few legendary contestants from The Challenge, try about 12 or 13 more times. While MTV’s tentpole competition series has produced a collection of decorated victors across 37 seasons (think CT, Darrell and Ashley “Millionaire” Mitchell), it has, all the while, kept more than a few staples of the series from earning championship cash. Call it bad luck or a matter of circumstance, but Aneesa, Tori, Leroy, Jenna and other Challenge linchpins have somehow gone years without standing atop the hallowed podium. Still, we appreciate their resolve and continue to cheer them on. In fact, we’ve compiled a list of Challenge greats who have come close...
