That “Strange Case” in HBO’s Lovecraft Country We Can’t Stop Thinking About
Warning: This editorial discusses scenes depicting rape and sexual assault. HBO’s Lovecraft Country has been a wild ride so far. In just four episodes, we’ve seen haunted houses, vampiric monsters, and mysterious cults, along with the real world horrors of Jim Crow laws and white supremacy. The series’ fifth episode — this past Sunday’s “Strange Case” — manages to top all of that with one of the most disturbing scenes in recent memory. In a twist on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku), a Black woman takes a potion and wakes up in a white body. Amazon Acquires Joe Exotic Series Starring Nicolas Cage
Amazon has nabbed the rights to the upcoming Joe Exotic TV series starring Nicolas Cage. The eight-episode series is being helmed by Dan Lagana, co-creator and showrunner of the Netflix mockumentary American Vandal. The story will focus on rise and fall of the eccentric zookeeper, who became an Internet sensation after being featured in the Netflix documentary Tiger King. He is currently serving 22 years in a federal prison after being found guilty of a murder-for-hire plot against his former rival, Carole Baskin, as well as for animal abuse. Emotions are high for the Supernatural family. Today, The CW series reached its final day of shooting, concluding an epic run that spans 15 years and 15 seasons. Not surprisingly, the cast, the crew, and the fans reflected on the momentous occasion, so much so that #ThankYouSupernatural became the No. 1 trend on Twitter. The Walking Dead to End with Season 11
After more than a decade, The Walking Dead is finally ready to rest. As Deadline and EW note, the long-running horror series will come to an end in 2022 after an expanded 11th season. But just as one zombie falls only to be replaced by another, so does a new spinoff of The Walking Dead stumble on in its place. The new untitled series will star Norman Reedus‘ Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol, and is expected to debut in 2023. The coronavirus pandemic had already interrupted production on Season 10, pushing the season finale back to October 4th. Joe Exotic stated his intention to issue a formal pardon request to Donald Trump a few months ago, and Trump said he’d be willing to “take a look” at the situation.
