Comedian Bryan Callen stands accused of rape and sexual misconduct. On Friday, The Los Angeles Times published an investigative report that included allegations from four separate women that span over two decades. According to the report, former MADtv cast member Katherine Fiore Tigerman stated that Callen raped her in 1999 after pleading with him to stop. That same year, former American Apparel employee Rachel Green alleged Callen pinned her against a dressing room wall. Green said she had pushed Callen off and immediately told her co-workers. Actress Claire Ganshert told the Times she met Callen in 2012 and claims she had a four-year affair with the comic while he was married. Callen reportedly told her that women have a “biological, primal desire to be raped.” Later in 2017, comic ...
State of The Muppets: It’s been a minute. That might sound strange to those who have tuned in to the recent mini-Fraggle Rock revival on Apple TV+ or binged last year’s critically acclaimed Dark Crystal reboot on Netflix. While it’s been wonderful to see these properties get new treatments, it’s worth noting that those productions have flown under the banner of the Jim Henson Company, which controls certain archival content and owns rights to some of the more “cult” properties left over from the entertainment empire that Henson created. The Muppets that multiple generations around the world grew up on, including characters like Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo the Great, are currently owned by Disney. That distinction may not matter to most, especially with Henson produc...
The Pitch: When we last saw the super-powered, super-dysfunctional Hargreeves siblings, they had front-row seats to the end of the world — mostly because they caused it. In a last-ditch attempt to stave off the apocalypse, time-traveling Number Five (Aiden Gallagher) zaps the Umbrella Academy back to the past to stop it, only to find out he’s flung his brothers and sisters scattershot throughout different years in the early 1960s in Dallas, Texas. Each of them thinking they’re alone, they try to settle into new lives: Hulking Luther (Tom Hopper) turns to drink, despair, and bare-knuckle boxing; mind-control maven Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) gets married and embeds herself in the budding Civil Rights Movement; knife-throwing bruiser Diego (David Castañeda) is institutionalized; pansex...
Ellen DeGeneres has come forward. In a letter to her crew, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres addressed the allegations of misconduct and environment of fear that has since prompted an internal investigation by Warner Media. “My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that,” DeGeneres wrote. “Alongside Warner Bros, we immediately began an internal investigation and we are taking steps, together, to correct the issues.” DeGeneres went on to contend that the show’s growth has made it difficult to “stay on top of everything”, prompting “others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done,” to which she explicitly admitted: “Clearly some didn’t.” “That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again,” DeGeneres argued. She ...
Chris and Ameide were in the midst of purchasing a home when the world was turned upside-down by the COVID-19 pandemic. And now, they’re showing their true life on MTV as they live with Chris’ family and await the birth of their second child. “Due to COVID-19, I’m quarantining at my mom’s house with my mother Danielle, my sister Stephanie, my daughter Khaleesia and my girlfriend Ameide, who is eight months pregnant,” Chris reveals in the clip above from the four-part, self-documented series True Life Presents: Quarantine Stories (premiering on Wednesday). So what’s it like having “five big personalities in one house”? And how would Ameide describe being pregnant during a global pandemic and going to doctor’s appointments without h...
The 2020 Virgin Media BAFTA television awards are coming to you live, this Friday 31 July on BBC One. To celebrate the biggest night in British telly, a handful of nominees are sharing some glamorous, personality-filled portraits ahead of the anticipated award ceremony — all shot remotely by acclaimed British photographer Rankin. The series includes intimate photos of Naomi Ackie, Stephen Graham, Ncuti Gatwa, Suranne Jones, and others in their best at-home awards show outfits. “I am so excited to have shot the 2020 Virgin Media BAFTAs nominee portraits,” said Rankin in a press statement. “Despite the limitations, we have created a memora...
#EmmysSoWhite? Not this year. On Tuesday morning, the Television Academy announced its nominations for the 2020 Emmys, delivering what’s reportedly their most diverse slate in history. As Variety points out, out of the 102 acting nominees this year, 35 of those slots went to Black performers, accounting for 34.3% of the total slate. For context, that’s an increase from the previous high of 27.7% in 2018, and especially last year’s 19.8%. It’s a refreshing change that aligns with the vision of Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, who led off this morning’s event by saying, “2020 isn’t just about the global health crisis. This year we are also bearing witness to one of the greatest fights for social justice in history, and it is our duty to use this medium for change.” However,...
Cheers to “the new kingdom” — that’s Juliette‘s recipe for getting over a heartbreak. But is moving on to a brand-new beau the best remedy? During tonight’s Siesta Key, the Queen Bee grew even closer to Sam (who just happened to be an old friend of the young dad-to-be). “Alex’s been like texting me,” Sam told Juliette and Chloe. “A little shade that I’ve been kicking it with Juliette. He doesn’t want me to be hanging around her.” Fast-forward to Alyssa’s gender reveal bash — and Sam initiating a group outing (with Juliette’s support) on his family’s yacht (plus jet skis) the very same time as the Kompo bash. Madisson and Brandon were with Alyssa and company, while Juliette, Chloe, Kelsey a...
Baby Yoda is officially an Emmy nominee. On Tuesday (July 28), the Television Academy unveiled its full list of 2020 Emmy noms, with HBO’s stunning Watchmen reimagining leading the pack with 26 across acting and directing categories. Some notable first-time nominees have plenty to celebrate about as well. Yes, that includes Baby Yoda — sorry, “The Child” — as Disney+’s debut Star Wars live-action drama The Mandalorian landed a nod for Best Drama Series. Zendaya, too, nabbed her first-ever nomination in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her work on Euphoria. Meanwhile, returning favorites had plenty to celebrate. The cast of HBO’s family lineage dramedy Succession had a strong showing; six of the show’s main stars earned a nod, as did the fo...
Sponsored Season 35 mandated elimination-round wins, but many previous players stepped up 5h ago Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today: Benjamin Franklin may have coined the adage, but Challenge contestants — particularly on the most recent season, Total Madness — have been living by the statement. Season 35 — which mandated that players win at least one elimination round to qualify for the final mission — players schemed not to avoid Purgatory, but to weasel their ways in. Cast members like Tori, Jenny and Jordan campaigned to get the inevitable over with, and while it worked out well for some, the choice to step up early sometimes meant competitors left early too. Still, Total Madness wasn’t the first time that players took the difficult road — and took it early — inst...
