In anticipation of that episode, her song, titled “New York Doesn’t Like Your Face”, is being shared today. Apple co-wrote the piece with David Lucky, a friend, composer, and collaborator whom she’s previously described as “one of my favorite people in the world.” The track itself is sung by Central Park character Ashley, voiced by the six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald. Watch a clip of Ashley singing Apple’s “New York Doesn’t Like Your Face” below. The full episode airs July 24th, which is the same day the entire soundtrack arrives. Editors...

Katherine Langford, Cursed Star And Plant Mom, On Finding Her Courage

“I’ve become a plant parent.” That’s the first thing the Perthian actress Katherine Langford tells me, with a candor of pure excitement, on an early-morning phone call from her European quarantine hideout. She’s recently adopted a flowering Chinese lily, which she’s cleverly named after the Australian comedian Chris Lilley, and a carnivorous Venus flytrap she calls “Snappers.” At first listen, this achievement may seem altogether quite ordinary, but the experience is, in actuality, completely novel for the 24-year-old. Ever since the 2017 debut of the controversial drama 13 Reasons Why, in which she starred as Liberty High School student Hannah Baker, her career has been an endless stream of increasingly high-profile projects — Love, Simon; Knives Out — that have kept her always on t...

30 Rock Reunion Special: How to Watch, Premiere Time, and Everything You Need to Know

On Thursday, July 16th, the cast of 30 Rock are reuniting for a one-time-only scripted special. It’s debuting on NBC, which you can watch with a free 7-day trial of Hulu + Live TV. It’s been seven years since the hit sitcom concluded its seven-season, 138-episode run in January of 2013. Now, like its sister NBC program Parks and Recreation, the beloved comedy is heading back to the air for a purpose-driven reunion special. While the Parks and Recs crew re-teamed to support Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, the 30 Rock-ers have gotten back together for a far more corporate purpose — which, given the very nature of the show itself, makes it a perfectly meta exercise in corporate synergy. So, why exactly have the doors to Studio 6H been reopened, and how can you watch it all unfo...

Discovery Channel Will Air Mythbusters Marathon in Honor of Late Host Grant Imahara

Longtime Mythbusters host Grant Imahara died earlier this week after suffering a brain aneurysm. Now, to honor his life and legacy, Discovery Channel and Science Channel will air a Mythbusters marathon this weekend. Beginning today, July 17th through Saturday, July 18th, a total of eight Imahara-centric episodes will broadcast across both channels. Many feature Imahara’s own favorite moments, according to Discovery, highlighting the Build Team member’s skills as an electrical engineer and roboticist. One of the marathon episodes includes a test to see whether a hotel room shower curtain could double as a durable parachute, while another experiments with armor made of folded paper. Also included is Killer Robots: Robo Games 2011, a 60-minute special in which Imahara takes vie...

Nerds! The 30 Rock Reunion Special Is Now Streaming in Full: Watch

Attention 30 Rock lovers — and sorry if that word bums you out unless it’s between the words ‘meat’ and ‘pizza’ — but the 30 Rock reunion special has finally arrived. If you want to go to there, you can watch it now on the NBC website. Unlike other recent reunions, such as Parks and Recreation’s fundraiser for Feeding America, 30 Rock: A One-Time Special is in service of NBC’s corporate overlords. Granted, as Jack Donaghy once said, every television show exists “to fill time between car commercials.” But here, the products being sold are NBC and its new streaming service Peacock, and half the commercials are seamlessly integrated into the reunion itself. But the special’s writers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are also mocking their own willingness to shill, so it fits into the trad...

Alex Trebek Once Unknowingly Ate Five Hash Brownies and Woke Up at a Friend’s House Three Days Later

Next Tuesday brings the release of Alex Trebek’s new memoir, The Answer Is… Reflections on My Life. As the New York Times reveals in a new profile on the Jeopardy! host, the book provides a few humorous personal andecdotes about the notoriously private television personality. Chief among them: Trebek unknowingly ate four or five hash brownies at a party in Malibu and woke up at the host’s house three days later. Trebek has actually shared the story in the before, such as in a 2015 interview with Howard Stern. “I went to this party in Malibu [in the 1970s], and they had hash brownies,” Trebek recounted at the time. “I love chocolate, and I ate four or five hash brownies. The party was on a Friday night, I didn’t leave their home until Monday morning. No exaggeration!” Trebek also acknowledg...

The Island, The Ruins, Rivals, Battle of the Exes, Free Agents, Rivals III — and now, Total Madness. Johnny Bananas is in first place once again and has lucky seven Challenge titles to his name. The legendary competitor bested Kyle, Cory and Fessy (in that order) to nab the $500K prize on his record-setting 20th season. (Jenny beat Kaycee on the ladies side). “Oh my God” is a good way to sum it all up after being told by TJ he was victorious — following two long days of checkpoint obstacles on a treacherous cold wintry course (The Alps). “I’ve never wanted anything and I’ve never needed anything this bad,” the longtime MTV personality reflected. “Without this one, had I not come and not seen this one through, I don’t know if I wou...

Netflix adds another 10 million subscribers

Getty Images Netflix is still growing as people continue to shelter in place around the country, but the company is now seeing the slowed subscriber growth executives predicted would arrive three months ago. On top of announcing that longtime chief content officer Ted Sarandos would join CEO Reed Hastings as co-CEO, the company made a few impressive announcements. Netflix added 10.2 million subscribers in its second quarter, beating the company’s own estimates that it made in its first quarter, which suggested it could add around 7.5 million. Netflix noted that it added 26 million paid new subscribers in the first two quarters of 2020 alone; in 2019, the company added 28 million subscribers in total. The company’s revenue grew 25 percent year over year, but missed its revenue goals for the...
