Eric Andre: Legalize Everything Adds Some Much-Needed Danger to Stand-up Comedy: Review

The Pitch: Eric Andre never stops performing. On his cult hit The Eric Andre Show, he’s not just interviewing guests and using himself as a canvas on which to paint Jackass-style feats of physical cruelty. No, he’s doing an impression of a talk show host. When he begrudgingly runs to the microphone at the top of each show to do Leno-style monologues, they seem to all but destroy him mentally. He does Man on the Street bits that are thinly veiled perverse pranks. He promises guests like Arnold Schwarzenegger, only to bring out comedy writer Bruce Vilanch on a rebel scooter. He runs into the audience as often as he allows the audience to run on stage. Because of this, his live shows are closer in spirit to the running of the bulls than any kind of comedy showcase. But chaos has always been h...

The Golden Globes Will Air Later Than Usual. What Does That Mean For Awards Season?

The 78th Golden Globe Awards will take place on February 28, 2021, according to an announcement from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association released on Monday (June 22). The Globes will now air on the date for which the 93rd annual Academy Awards were previously scheduled before being moved to April 25. Though the press association had not previously announced the date, the Globes typically air the first Sunday in January, and have since 1973. That is partially because the press association likes to set the tone for the Academy Awards, serving as the unofficial start to the season. Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host the ceremony — as they did in 2013, 2014, and 2015 — which the press association, the group of journalists who decide the recipients, said will still be “Hollywo...

Sneak Peek: DJ Pauly D Is Helping This Man Get Revenge On His Wife

It’s time for payback — and help is on the way in the form of DJ Pauly D and Vinny. In a sneak peek of the brand-new series Revenge Prank with DJ Pauly D and Vinny, premiering on Thursday, Pauly explains that he is going to help a man named Garrick get the last laugh at the expense of his wife Zoe. “[Zoe] pranked me in the middle of the night that her water [was] broke — we were a month away from her due date,” Garrick tells Pauly D in the clip about a now-viral stunt — and the root of why he is on the MTV series. “We were supposed to have a scheduled C-section, so it was kind of a scary thing.” Garrick actually cried in the middle of the prank and was “very emotional.” He also admitted his wife took it a “little too far....

Comedy Central Pulls Workaholics Episode Featuring Chris D’Elia Playing a Child Molester

Comedy Central has pulled a Workaholics episode featuring the disgraced comic Chris D’Elia from the show’s library on Hulu, Amazon Prime, and the network’s own website and streaming app, as Slashfilm reports. The episode in question is “To Friend a Predator” from the debut season of Workaholics which originally aired on May 25th, 2011. In the episode, D’Elia plays a character named Topher, an alleged child molester that lurks a Justin Bieber fansite. Clearly, not a good look for the network given the recent allegations made against D’Elia. Last week, the stand-up comic was accused of numerous incidents of sexual misconduct, many of which involve a number of underage girls. Comedy Central didn’t stop at Workaholics, though. As Slashfilm points out, the network has also comple...

30 Rock Blackface Episodes Pulled at Tina Fey’s Request

30 Rock is about to get slimmer. As Variety reports, creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock alongside NBCUniversal have requested that multiple episodes featuring characters in blackface be removed from streaming networks and syndication. “As we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation,” Fey explained in a statement obtained by Variety. “I understand now that ‘intent’ is not a free pass for white people to use these images. I apologize for pain they have caused. Going forward, no comedy-loving kid needs to stumble on these tropes and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBCUniversal for honoring this request.” As Vulture notes, Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) appe...

How The Conversations About Race On Real World: New York Are Still Commonplace — Nearly 30 Years Later

The year was 1992, and seven diverse strangers were having their “lives taped” in the real world while living in New York. The MTV trailblazers — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell — didn’t know it back in the ’90s, but nearly 30 years later, their raw conversations surrounding race would still be prevalent. During these truly historic times as America demonstrates against racial inequality, stands up to police brutality and demands justice for the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless victims of racism, the goal is to look back and examine why these MTV incidents featuring five white cast members and two black cast members still hold weight. First, thes...

Back in 2017, Clinton Moxam And Uche Nwosu met on Are You the One? Season 6. And even though they were not a perfect match on the show, the lovebirds became engaged three years to the day that they met on the MTV series. “So yesterday my dreams came true,” Clinton captioned the beautiful photos, above, on Instagram. “I met my fiancé exactly 3 years ago today & yesterday I asked her to spend the rest of her life with me. This was the easiest decision I’ve ever made. Honestly, there wasn’t even a decision to be made, I truly believe we were created for one another!⁣ ⁣ He sweetly continued: “Uche, I’ve been searching for you since I was like 9. Our relationship and the love we have for one another came out of nowhere & it’s undeniable you’re my wife. You’re pe...

HBO’s Perry Mason Tweaks the Past to Build a More Exciting Future: Review

The Pitch. When I heard that Perry Mason was soon to be gracing HBO, I will have to admit, I laughed. Forgive me, Perry Mason obsessives, but my chief memory of the reruns of the Perry Mason TV show of the 1950s and 1960s (to which this series bears no resemblance) from adolescence is that my father used it on Sunday nights as a sleep aid. Usually, he conked out somewhere during the opening theme. When I stayed up to watch the show, what I saw was a collage of grays, whites, and blacks, a moving gallery of future character actors and movie stars swirling around imperious and determined courtroom lawyer Mason, played by Raymond Burr. Ultimately, there wasn’t anything terribly dramatic about any of it except for Mason’s eyebrows and the occasional blast of wobbly soundtrack. And ye...

Mark Hamill Has a Secret Cameo in The Mandalorian as a Cantina Droid

Eagle-eyed Star Wars fans love to boast that they could spot Mark Hamill anywhere thanks to the wide range of voice and acting roles he’s accumulated over the years. That’s not always true though. The Luke Skywalker actor made his coolest secret cameo yet last year that nobody noticed: he was a droid in the fifth episode of The Mandalorian. During the finale of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, a behind-the-scenes docuseries about the making of the smash hit Disney Plus show, it was revealed that Hamill appeared in the series as the cantina bartender in Episode 5, reports Deadline. The droid — named EV-9D9, according to creator Jon Favreau — was uncredited and Hamill masked his voice for the role. In the scene, the Mandalorian walks into the cantina and approaches the bartender to ask about...
