[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the Season 1 finale of Andor.] A lot of major plot points are packed into the Season 1 finale of Andor, but really, one of the year’s most powerful episodes of television came down to a speech from a dead woman. Fiona Shaw’s work was the definition of Emmy-worthy in the back half of the season, as Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)’s adoptive mother, fully aware that she was nearing the end of her days, became fully committed to one goal: doing whatever she could to combat the rise of the Empire. Her passing in Episode 11, as seen from the point of view of her loyal droid B2EMO, was already a heartbreaking moment for the show — the childlike sadness of “I want Maarva” jerking tears from anyone who’s ever lost a loved one. But then came her sp...
Crime doesn’t wait for the holidays to pass, especially for the Reno Sheriff’s Department. Comedy Central has today revealed the trailer for Reno 911!: It’s a Wonderful Heist, the upcoming feature-length Christmas special featuring the cast of the satirical cop comedy. The season isn’t so cheerful for Lieutenant Dangle (Thomas Lennon), who finds himself wishing he’d never been born. Unfortunately, everyone appears to be doing much, much better. Never one to take things subtly, Dangle decides he should stay alive — for better or for worse. When a potential theft threatens a local mall owner, the sheriffs do what they do best: Kind...
Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales is without a doubt one of the biggest surprises that TV has to offer this year. Following Chippendales founder Steve Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), the show starts out as an exciting underdog tale about an Indian emigrant who goes on to create one of the world’s most popular establishments. But then, as Chippendales becomes more and more of a success, the show metamorphoses into a stranger-than-fiction story of arson, racketeering, and murder – to just scratch the surface. Is this story actually stranger than fiction? Below, we investigate the contents of Chippendales, episode by episode, breaking down what actually happened, and what was fabricated — or completely made-up — for the series. We’ll update this post each week as each new episode debuts. [Edito...
Jason David Frank, the actor and mixed martial artist who portrayed Tommy Oliver in the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers franchise, has died at 49. The news was first shared on Sunday (November 20th) by Frank’s trainer, Mike Bronzoulis, via Facebook. It was later confirmed by his representative Justine Hunt via TVLine, who said in a statement: “Please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being. He loved his family, friends and fans very much. He will be truly missed.” Frank was an instant Power Rangers fan favorite upon his introduction on the children’s action series’ first season in 1993. Though he initially donned the Green Ranger suit, he also originated the White Ranger persona and later took o...
Reindeer or not, Santa wasn’t ready for this slay in the first teaser for Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Mystery. The improvised mystery series returns to Netflix December 15th. Will Arnett reprises his role as Detective Terry Seattle, whose powerful mustache is matched by his powerful aura of divorce. The one-off holiday special co-stars Maya Rudolph and Jason Bateman as trainee detectives attempting to solve a ho-ho-homicide, with the same catch as Season 1: The guest stars don’t get a script, and have to improvise their way to the crime’s solution. The teaser shows Rudolph and Bateman undergoing the kinds of humiliation that will be familiar from Season 1, including insults (“Well, if it isn’t the ghost of Christmas ass,”) and being forced to drink milk out of dog bowl. Pack your bags (again), because The White Lotus is returning to HBO for Season 3. Mike White will return to helm the upcoming third installment of his hit black comedy, which first took us to Hawaii back in July 2021. Today’s news arrives as we’re only three of seven episodes in to Season 2, which takes place at another White Lotus property off the Sicilian coast. HBO has yet to reveal many plot details about The White Lotus Season 3, except that it will feature yet another new ensemble cast — the excellent Jennifer Coolidge is the only character to appear in both Season 1 and 2 — and we’ll have an entirely new resort to explore. Perhaps a sprawling mountainside ski lodge this go around for us summer-haters? Related Video There’s also no word right now about who will star in this...
The Pitch: Several years ago, German creative/romantic partners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar made their mark with Netflix’s sci-fi/thriller series Dark. Centered around “A missing child [who] sets four families on a frantic hunt for answers as they unearth a mind-bending mystery that spans three generations,” it was heavily praised by critics and audiences. Thus, the roughly two-and-a-half-year wait to see what the duo would do next has been tough, to put it mildly. That brings us to their second succinctly-yet-enigmatically-titled show for the streaming service, 1899. This time, “multinational immigrants traveling from the old continent to the new encounter a nightmarish riddle aboard a second ship adrift on the open sea.” Along the way, various truths and connections are discovered ab...
MGM+ and Prime Video have inked a new deal to produce a new suite of television shows based on Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The first series, Silk: Spider Society, comes from showrunner Angela Kang and centers on the superhero Silk. Silk is the alias of Cindy Moon, a Korean American woman who was bit by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. The character was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramo and first appeared in a 2014 Marvel comic. Silk: Spider Society serves as a bit of the superhero’s origin story, following Moon as she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family before she officially becomes Silk. Kang, who currently serves as showrunner of The Walking Dead, signed a multi-year deal to create television for Amazon Studios. On Silk: Spider Society, ...
[Editor’s note: The following contains mild spoilers for The English.] The new Prime Video series The English is an unconventional Western for a number of reasons, but the most central one might be the romance at its center. “It was the most tender love story and surprising love story,” star Emily Blunt tells Consequence. “I loved their chemistry.” Set in the late 1800s, largely on the wild plains of Kansas and Wyoming, The English focuses on a vengeful Englishwoman (Blunt) and the Pawnee ex-soldier (Chaske Spencer) who becomes an essential part of her quest for revenge. As they work together to fight and survive, a bond develops that was very much by design, according to writer/director Hugo Blick (The Honourable Woman). Lily-Rose Depp’s got some pretty famous parents, but don’t blame them for her success. The model and actress aired out her issues with the “nepotism baby” label she’s faced in recent years in a new interview with Elle, pointing to the fact that more famous women are accused of benefiting from nepotism than famous men. Memes abound on social media about the deflating feeling of discovering that one’s favorite celebrity has famous parents, with the insinuation that their talent disappears after realizing that they probably had a helping hand in achieving success. However, Lily-Rose — daughter of Johnny Depp and French singer Vanessa Paradis — argues that said interest in one’s famous parents really only exists online. “The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff. People ar...
