HipHopWired Featured Video Source: 2020 Soul Train Awards / Getty Snoh Aalegra is weighing in on the great online debate comparing her to soul legend Sade Adu. The debate, which began after a fan tweeted, “Snoh Aalegra is our Sade,” drew mixed responses from fans, with some co-signing the sentiment, pointing to Aalegra and Sade’s similar aesthetics and sounds, while the vast majority of users pushed back on the comparison– prompting the Swedish born songstress to ask fans to squelch the idea. The 33-year-old singer echoed many of the sentiments expressed by Sade fans, insisting no one will ever compare to the “By Your Side” artist. “There’s only one Queen Sade Adu. There will never be another one,” Aalegra wrote. This comparison I just saw is so unnecessary. It’s not even a debate. Respect...
Tyler, the Creator’s latest album, Call Me If You Get Lost, blends his unconventional early-days charisma with the warm melodies of later projects Flower Boy and IGOR. The record, a love letter to the DJ Drama mixtapes of the 2000s, finds Tyler reminiscing on personal histories and basking in the possibilities up ahead. Like much of his discography, the album devotes a healthy portion of its runtime to self-reflection. Since introducing fans to imaginary therapist “Dr. TC” on his debut mixtape, 2009’s Bastard, Tyler’s music has cathartically yet creatively addressed the frustrations, passions and inspirations of his personal life. He took that theme even further on 2019’s IGOR, centered around the titular figure—represented by Tyler in a blonde wig—who embodies and reckons with heartbreak....
After a few days of teasing it, Tyler, the Creator has finally revealed that his new studio album, Call Me If You Get Lost, will be released next week on June 25. Initially, billboards popped up across select cities around the world, including Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Sydney, Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver before Tyler shared a teaser trailer for Call Me If You Get Lost earlier this week that saw him making out with a girl before zipping away in a pink car. On Wednesday, Tyler released the album’s first single, “LUMBERJACK.” The album will also be accompanied by new merch included in two different CD/poster/t-shirt box sets and two cassette/poster/t-shirt box sets, in addition to a limited amount of à la carte CDs and cassettes available as well...
On Monday, Tyler, the Creator dropped a 40-second teaser trailer on his social media platforms, which most assumed meant new music (or something new) was on the way. Now, it has arrived in the form of a new song. Titled “LUMBERJACK,” the song is Tyler’s first proper release since 2019’s Igor. Check out the song and its teaser trailer below. [embedded content] [embedded content] As you can see in the teaser, the phrase “Call Me If You Get Lost” appears as it did in the original “Side Street” clip. As of now, what that means remains to be seen. But it seems like new music is on the way. Tyler will be performing at Lollapalooza next month and Outside Lands in October. Last year, Tyler appeared in a Gucci ad with Iggy Pop and A$AP Rocky, got his own ice cream...
Tyler, the Creator has kept a somewhat low profile since taking home a Grammy for Igor back in early 2020 (AKA the before times). But it seems like, if what he just shared is a sign of things to come, Tyler has something releasing soon. The Odd Future boss just shared a short, 43-second teaser on his social platforms. On the aptly titled “Side Street,” Tyler is making out with a girl in front of a pink car while holding a dog’s leash… on a side street. Once Tyler hops in said car and goes his own way, fellow Odd Future member Taco pops up and talks with the girl who Tyler was making out with and the words “Call Me If You Get Lost” appear on the screen. Watch it below. [embedded content] Based on his top-level appearances at Lollapalooza next month and Outside Lands in October, you’d assume...

“Everything I do is organic,” Brent Faiyaz says when asked about his songwriting process. “I don’t even really calculate this shit like that,” he continues. “I’m actually surprised that I do put out music in a timely fashion.” The 25-year-old R&B vocalist has, in fact, put out plenty of music since his 2013 EP Black Child. The Maryland-based artist has since released five EPs, one of which was with his side project Sonder, and a studio album, 2017’s Sonder Son. In the meantime, he has a single, “Gravity,” with Tyler, the Creator, and an upcoming song titled “Show You Off,” slated for International Women’s Day in March. Even aside from his music, he’s spent time modeling for Calvin Klein as part of a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s new company, pgLang. “It’s cool...

Tyler is set to appear on a song called “Fuego” and Tinashe will feature on the project’s penultimate track, “Take Your Time.” They’ll arrive alongside the previously released “Skate Depot,” which exudes the effortlessly cool flow that Channel Tres has championed in recent years en route to becoming one of contemporary music’s fastest rising stars.
