HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Courtesy of CNN / other Drowning has been determined as the cause of the death of Jelani Day, the Illinois State graduate student who went missing in August and whose body was found but not identified until the month after, fueling concerns about what truly happened to him. LaSalle County Coroner Richard Ploch announced the news on Monday (October 25th), acknowledging that “the manner in which Mr. Day went into the Illinois River is currently unknown,” but also writing that the office’s forensic examinations were less than optimal in a press release cited by CNN. Here We Go Again: White VA Councilman Wears Blackface While Dressed As ‘Coming To America’s’ Randy Watson

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NBC12 / NBC12 You know—maybe it’s about time we unofficially rename Halloween “White People, Don’t Get Yourselves Beat TF Up” Day. It seems like every October, some melanin-redacted person, or group of people, gets lit up and dragged across social media because they refuse to learn that the inclusion of blackface in white people’s costumes is no longer acceptable. Really, it was never acceptable, but now white people have largely come to glory on the fact that America’s history of minstrel and caricature when it comes to how Black people are mocked and portrayed has made it rightfully taboo for any form of blackface to be used in the 21st century. Or at least that’s what we thought. Faron Hamblin, a white town councilman in Richmond County, Virginia, rece...

The Jig: Kyle Rittenhouse Trial Judge Says Prosecutors Can’t Use the Word “Victim”

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Stephen Maturen / Getty The presiding judge in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse has ruled that prosecutors cannot call the men that he is charged with shooting “victims”, but that the defense team isn’t bound by those rules, already casting doubts about the fairness of the proceedings. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Wisconsin Circuit Court Judge Bruce Schroeder ruled on Monday (October 25th) that the prosecution should refrain from calling the men Rittenhouse shot as “victims” in their opening statements to the jury because “because it would be prejudicial to Rittenhouse,” he said. “The word victim is a loaded, loaded word.” Schroeder cautioned the defense to avoid doing so as well, but he did grant them the opportunity to call these individuals “rioter...

Bill Murray Lets Slip That He’s in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Notoriously choosey actor Bill Murray has apparently decided to make the Marvel leap, as he recently let slip he’s filmed a scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Speaking to German media outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about his new Wes Anderson feature The French Dispatch, Murray was discussing his decision to frequently collaborate with the same filmmakers. Asked whether it was important that he works with people he knows and likes, the actor responded, “You know, I made a Marvel movie recently. I’m probably not allowed to tell you, but whatever.” Though he didn’t betray Kevin Feige entirely by directly revealing what film he was talking about, it doesn’t take a super-sleuth to figure it out. Murray continued (translated from German by The Cosmic Circus), “Anyways, some...

Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen Speak About Being “Outsiders”

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty Former President Barack Obama hasn’t slowed down since his time in office, and now he has a new book coming out with rock music icon and longtime friend Bruce Springsteen based on their acclaimed podcast and shared bond as outsiders. The two were interviewed for a segment on CBS This Morning regarding the release of their book based on their podcast, Renegades: Born in The USA. Former President Obama stated that it was his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama who suggested that he should get to spend more time with the singer-songwriter as they had just struck up their friendship. “I said, ‘Well, why is that?’”,Obama recalls asking at the time. “She says, ‘You know, he understands all his failings and flaws as a man, and you don’t...

Red Fang are back with more comedy gold, this time staging their own funeral for the hilarious video for “Rabbit in Hives.” Just in time for Halloween, the four members of Red Fang find themselves deceased. At the open-casket memorial, a host of the band’s fellow heavy rock luminaries are in attendance to pay their respects: a shirtless Matt Pike of High on Fire, members of YOB, Lord Dying, and more. “I was surprised by the death of Red Fang,” eulogizes the band’s now jobless tour manager. “I guess a life of marginal fame and fortune takes a toll.” Advertisement Related Video One by one the guests take their turns at the podium, which devolves in a tongue-in-cheek roast of Red Fang. When it’s Pike’s turn, he unfolds a piece of paper to read a poem he “wrote”: “Carry on my wayward sons, the...

Netflix CEO Admits He ‘Screwed Up’ With His Dismissive Response Dave Chappelle Criticism

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Lester Cohen / Courtesy of Netflix No matter how one feels about comedy icon Dave Chappelle and his latest Netflix stand-up special The Closer, there’s one thing objective people should be able to agree on from both a business and human standpoint: The response to the backlash by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos was trash. As previously reported, when viewers called The Closer out for transphobic and otherwise derogatory remarks made by Chappelle, and many were demanding the special be pulled from the platform, Sarandos sent out an internal memo to Netflix employees stating that “We don’t allow titles (on) Netflix that are designed to incite hate or violence, and we don’t believe The Closer crosses that line.” Related Stories “I recognize, however, t...

Corpsegrinder’s Name Removed as World of Warcraft Character Due to Past Homophobic Remarks

Game-maker Blizzard has removed George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher’s name from his World of Warcraft non-playable character (NPC) due to past homophobic remarks made by the Cannibal Corpse frontman in 2007. “Gorge the Corpsegrinder” was an NPC and quest-giver that paid homage to the death metal vocalist, an outspoken WoW fan and a prominent player for the multiplayer online game’s Horde faction. However, calls to remove Corpsegrinder from WoW began in September when gamers shed light on homophobic remarks Fisher made in a 2007 interview. The interview in question originated from 2007, and aired at the 2011 BlizzCon event. Fisher spoke about his love for World of Warcraft and playing for the Horde, but he called the rival faction, the Alliance, the “homo-alliance” and referred to those players a...

Letitia Wright Denies Making Anti-Vaxx Comments On Set of ‘Black Panther 2’

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Marvel / Disney Letitia Wright caused a bit of controversy last year when she joined in the anti-vaccine movement and again when she allegedly spread the anti-vaxx “gospel” on the set of Black Panther 2 a few weeks back, allegedly. While it wasn’t hard to believe that Wright (who ironically plays super scientist Shuri in Black Panther) would take her ideas with her to Atlanta where the film is in production, the up and coming actress is denying that she was spreading anti-vaccine information on set and took to Instagram to voice her displeasure at the accusations. In a post that featured a suit of armor and a loosely translated “quote” from The Bible (Isaiah 54:17) which read “Weapons made to attack you won’t be successful: Words spoken against you won’t ...
