The decision to remove Fornite from the App Store and Google Play Store came immediately after Epic Games announced that players will get a 20% discount when they purchase the game’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, directly from the Epic Games store. Source: Epic Games/Fortnite Just like that, Fortnite is gone from Apple’s App Store after Epic Games announced it was giving players a discount if they purchased V-Bucks directly from Epic. Apple’s decision literally comes hours after Epic Games revealed it would be bypassing the 30% revenue cut that both the App Store and Google Play store takes when players purchase V-Bucks in Fortnite. In a statement released earlier today announcing its new mobile direct payment system Epic stated: “If Apple or Google lower their fees on payments in the future, Epic will pass along the savings to you.” Apple, of course, didn’t care for the decision and subsequently has pulled the game from the App Store and in its own statement, the company said: “Today, Epic Games ...
When Justin Roiland announced the launch of Squanch Games (originally proposed as Squanchtendo) in 2016, it wasn’t immediately clear how the co-creator and primary voice actor of Rick and Morty was going to transition into video games. After all, his unique brand of humor and writing style could clearly draw a pretty rabid fan base, but his only previous experience in the video game industry was voicing iconic characters like Rick Sanchez, Morty Smith, and Adventure Time’s Earl of Lemongrab. That’s where CEO and co-founder Tanya Watson comes in. After working a variety of roles for gaming giants like Microsoft and Epic (on a small project called Fortnite), Watson had all of the industry know-how Roiland was missing. The duo put together a small team to put out the predictably-inappropriate...
