In a spoof that mimics commercials for nebulous drugs that treat unnamed issues, Dave Grohl reflects on a decade-old coffee addiction used to impair “solid bowel movements” leave him with “noxious coffee breath.” In his (excellent) version of a serious/sad TV voiceover, Grohl laments, “I found myself doing anything for the fix. My roast grew darker and darker until I finally hit pot bottom. I couldn’t be there for the ones I love when they needed me the most.” But wait, there’s a cure! TV-ad-Grohl perks up when he shills for “Fresh Potix.” But, as with all “those” drugs, it seems the side effects may be worse than the disease, just ask his Foo Fighters bandmates. A woman’s voice soothingly advises to “consult your doctor” should you experience any of the following side effects: “severe mon...

The Flaming Lips document their socially distanced “bubble” show in Oklahoma City with their new “Assassins of Youth” video. Despite the strangeness of seeing attendees in their own individual bubbles, everyone appears to be having a good time. It’s part rave, part Lips extravaganza, and everyone gets in on the action — including singer Wayne Coyne, who walks atop the crowd in his own bubble (a staple of the Lips’ concerts for quite a while now). Coyne, who also directed the video, detailed the filming process in a statement. “Of course, our MAIN priority (when doing the performance for the music video) was making sure everyone was safe and all the health cautions were being enforced,” he said. “But there was a welcome side effect: ‘I forgot about how exciting and fun and ridiculous i...
Belle and Sebastian weren’t able to hit the road this year, but they’ll be taking fans back to their 2019 tour with a new live double album, What to Look for in Summer. The idea for this record was not only inspired by fan demand but also was a new replacement project since the band’s plans of working on new material were squashed by the global pandemic. “It was something to focus on,” said guitarist and singer Stevie Jackson said in a statement. “That was very, very nice.” Singer and violinist Sarah Martin added, “It was quite nice to be doing that when we couldn’t even see each other.” To give fans a taste of what songs the band selected for the new live album, Belle and Sebastian released two videos — “The Boy With the Arab Strap” and “My Wandering Days are Over.” [embedded content] Stu...

We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, how to communicate without words, and the process is easier now...

With just over a week before the U.S. Presidential election, the Foo Fighters brought a stripped-back version of the band’s “Times Like These,” off their 2003’s One by One, to the I Will Vote benefit show to raise funds for the Biden-Harris campaign. Two Minutes to Late Night continues to celebrate Halloween with an Iron Maiden-ized version of the mosh-worthy tune “Dead Man’s Party” originally done by Los Angeles-based new wave legends Oingo Boingo. Dethklok guitarist Nili Brosh — who also tours with Oingo Boingo leader Danny Elfman — plays on the tune while wearing a Nightmare Before Christmas facemask, a nod to Elfman’s soundtrack work on the film. Other musicians include Protest the Hero drummer Michael Ieradi and vocalist Rody Walker, along with bassist Pete Green of Giraffe Tongue Orchestra and Dethklok. Dethklok was created for the Adult Swim show Metalocalypse, which is now canceled, but the band lives on. For October, Two Minutes to Late Night, which features punk and metal musicians jamming remotely on...

Haim were in full Halloween mode for their performance of “3 AM” on Thursday night’s edition of Late Night With Seth Meyers. Dressed in poufy wedding gowns (complete with the veils) and Alana sporting some blood on the sides of her mouth, the Haim sisters brought some funk to the late-night show. But what you may not have expected was who they brought as a surprise guest. Before the band played, someone’s phone rings showing that “Emotional Vampire” called, and a clip of Robert Pattinson leaving her a video message appeared. If you thought their performance in The Forum parking lot was good, watch their theatrical version “3 AM” below.
