It’s been a big year for the Weeknd. His latest album, After Hours, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. He took home all of the big awards at the VMAs in August and if that wasn’t enough action, he starred in and wrote an episode of American Dad. After sharing videos for “In Your Eyes” and “Snowchild,” the artist has dropped another one titled “Too Late.” The video starts off with a pair of sisters who had plastic surgery and on the drive home, find the Weeknd’s head in the middle of the street. They start doing weird things with it before the clip takes a violent turn. Check it out below. [embedded content] Last week, the Weeknd shared a remix of “In Your Eyes” where he teamed with none other than Kenny G. for the jazzy version. He’s also unleashed a remix of “Money Power Glory” fea...

Miley Cyrus has been making a habit of covering older rock songs recently, and today she released her take on Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe.” It follows her other recent covers like “Communication,” “Zombie,” and “Sweet Jane,” all done alongside her quarantine backing band the Social Distancers through MTV Unplugged. It’s a pretty far cry from the artist who brought us pop anthems like “Party in the U.S.A.,” “Wrecking Ball,” and “We Can’t Stop,” but the tracks also aren’t entirely surprising seeing as Cyrus has been looking to get back to her roots for quite some time. Among all of the weirdness that 2020 has brought, it’s hard to complain about Cyrus becoming the soulful queen of cover songs. Check out the video below. Julien Baker has just shared a glimpse of what will be coming from her upcoming third album, Little Oblivions. Directed by Daniel Henry, the video for “Faith Healer” shows empty rooms filled with things, an ongoing brawl between two people and individuals who are left alone to their own devices. And while all of that splashes across your screen, Baker appears singing. [embedded content] She explains the meaning betwen the song below: “Put most simply, I think that ‘Faith Healer’ is a song about vices, both the obvious and the more insidious ways that they show up in the human experience. I started writing this song 2 years ago and it began as a very literal examination of addiction. For awhile, I only had the first verse, which is just a really candid confrontation of the cognitive dissona...
Patty Smyth’s first new album of original solo material in 28 years is out now. Recently, we swung by Smyth’s rehearsal space and shot a four-song set for our ongoing Lullaby Sessions series. Featured in the set are Bob Thiele Jr. and Smyth’s husband who you may recognize: former tennis superstar and current broadcaster John McEnroe. Everyone’s in good spirits and they should be: it captures the laidback ethos of what the sessions stand for. Check it out below. [embedded content] Earlier this year, we spoke with Smyth as she announced her return. In our conversation, Smyth spoke about penning the theme song for the now-departed Netflix show G.L.O.W., her band Scandal’s start in the Lower East Side scene and who was her favorite singer from the grunge era. Made Kuti shares a social conscious single titled “Free Your Mind”. The Kuti lineage is renowned for its activist spirit. From way back in the 70s when it’s patriarch, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti dedicated hundreds of hours to tackling corruption in the government, to the present day with Seun and Femi Kuti among others walking the same path, activism, has become something like a trademark in the family. Made Kuti is the latest to challenge the status quo on a song titled “Free Your Mind“. Mirroring the jazzy Afrobeat instrumentals that was Fela’s go-to for his preaching, Free Your Mind leverages the shaky percussions and resounding acoustics the world came to love way back in the 70s to cushion Made’s sparse but challenging lyrics. What better way to inspire introspection than with...
Teyana Taylor’s dream came true when superstar Elton John agreed to play the grand piano in the “Lose Each Other” video, a single from The Album, her No. 1 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop record. “When Teyana Taylor released her debut album, I became a huge fan,” John said in a statement. “She was a guest on my Rocket Hour and I fell in love with her original spirit. Aside from her brilliant music, Teyana is one of the most visually dazzling artists working in music today. So I jumped at the chance to be in her latest video ‘Lose Each Other.’” The Album is Taylor’s third studio record and was released on June 19 through GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings. It is her second No. 1. Taylor, who also directed the video, recalls her amazement at hearing from John: “As we were working through ...
It’s that time of the week again — a new Two Minutes to Late Night cover has dropped! Marissa Nadler takes on the lead vocals on the Dusty Springfield’s version of the moody track, “Spooky.” (The song was initially done as a jazz instrumental by Mike Sharpe in 1967.) “Trick or treat! We covered that Dustry Springfield song from every Guy Richie movie (which is actually a gender-flipped cover song),” the caption accompanying the video said. Nadler is no stranger to Two Minutes and has covered Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years.” But of course, Nadler isn’t alone. Cave In and Mutoid Man leader Stephen Brodsky and Earth’s Dylan Carson are both on guitar while Emily Lee of Shearwater and Loma takes the keys and the mini theremin. She also “mysteriously” transforms into a cat at some point in t...
