Dave Grohl Pens ‘Superhero’ Theme Song for Nandi Bushell

After Nandi Bushell not only challenged Dave Grohl to a drum battle but also beat him by matching the Foo Fighters frontman beat-for-beat, Grohl is back with the next round in the ongoing competition. “OK Nandi, you got me,” Grohl said sitting in front of his drum kit. “You win round one, but I’ve got something special for you. Something you’ve never heard before. Something I’ve never heard before because I’m about to write this off the top of my head for you.” Aside from composing a brand-new drum solo, he also penned an epic theme song for the 10-year-old drumming wunderkind. Grohl also enlisted his daughters — Violet, Ophelia and Harper — to sing backup. “She got the power/ She got the soul/ Gonna save the world with her rock and roll!” he sings on the new track. Eddie Vedder Shares New Version of ‘Cartography’

Eddie Vedder has just shared his new single, “Cartography.” But what makes this particular song a little extra special is that he’s released not one, but two versions of the track. “Cartography (Nick Zinner RFK remix)” is the Pearl Jam leader’s contribution to Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 5,” and proceeds from the song will be donated to Fair Fight, which pushes “to ensure a free, fair and secure election in 2020″ — a cause Pearl Jam have been fighting for some time now. The new version of “Cartography” features “spoken word” in the form of a speech from Democratic senator Robert F. Kennedy. “Listening to the speech delivered by Bobby Kennedy in regards to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years ago,” Vedder said in a statement, “you are reminded that once again we are at a momen...

South of Eden Cover Audioslave’s ‘Show Me How to Live’ for Quarantine Era

Ehab Omran of Columbus’ South of Eden has long admired Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine. However, the Jordan-born, Ohio-raised singer only learned about “this crazy band called Audioslave” in 2012. He recalls hearing the group’s song “Show Me How to Live” for the first time while in high school and being flabbergasted by their spirited chemistry. “I fell in love with it instantly,” he recalls. “It’s a very heavy riff, but it grooves at the same time, and that’s why I think Tom Morello is a god for doing all the things he does on the electric guitar. And obviously Chris Cornell is nothing to pass over at all, may he rest in peace.” So when he and South of Eden were looking for a song to cover, the decision was easy. The video for their version of “Show Me How to Love” premieres toda...

Angel Olsen Covers George Harrison’s ‘Beware of Darkness’

With everything that’s happened in 2020 so far, the year has definitely been a mood. And Angel Olsen adds to it with an acoustic cover of “Beware of Darkness” from George Harrison’s 1970 album, All Things Must Pass. “The original is pretty great,” she captioned the Instagram video, which also included the lyrics to the track. “I’m just messing around like a tired sad shit.” It unsurprisingly got many rave reviews, including one from Jehnny Beth of Savages. “I love the way your voice gets more assured towards the end,” Beth commented on the video. “Properly walking then. The power of music. Thank you.” Olsen just released her fifth album, Whole New Mess, on Aug. 28 via Jagjaguwar. She also played the title track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Flaming Lips’ American Head is out now and to celebrate it, they dropped a new video for “God and the Policeman.” Directed by Wayne Coyne and Blake Studdard, the video, which takes place in Oklahoma and Texas, presents various strong images, from a baby boy in a field of sunflowers to a dead body on the road. And to add to the drama, Coyne is found running. At first, we’re not sure where to or from. But towards the end, the police finally catch up to him, put him in cuffs and take him away. “God and the Policeman” also features the vocals of Kacey Musgraves. And while she doesn’t appear in the video, her vocals are strongly felt. The Flaming Lips have previously released “My Religion is You,” “Will You Return/When You Come Down,” “Dinosaurs on the Mountain” and “You N’ Me Sellin.” Ahea...

Miley Cyrus Brings ‘Midnight Sky’ and Hall & Oates’ ‘Maneater’ to Tonight Show

When Miley Cyrus stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (Sept. 10), you knew it was going to be more than just a one-song-and-done kind of deal. Not only did Cyrus perform “Midnight Sky” off her upcoming album, She is Miley Cyrus, but she also brought a rocked-out cover of Hall & Oates’ “Maneater,” which she jokingly dedicated to her future ex-husband. “I think it’s very important to be transparent,” Cyrus said. “I’m freshly single, so anyone watching that’s my future ex-husband, just know, I told you.” “I’m just [like], just wear it all out in the open,” she continued with a laugh. “There’s no skeletons in the closet, I warned you first.” Both performances brought her full band positioned at socially distant spots and neon lights with lots of smoke and sparkle.
