Portugal. The Man Team With ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic on ‘Who’s Gonna Stop Me’

Aside from being hitmakers, the members of Portugal. The Man are also social activists who champion the indigenous community. Oct. 12 marks Indigenous Peoples Day, and to raise awareness the band partnered with one of its biggest influences — “Weird Al” Yankovic — and fellow Portland artist The Last Artful, Dodgr for a new song called “Who’s Gonna Stop Me.” “I grew up listening to The Beatles, David Bowie, Motown, and “Weird Al” Yankovic,” P.TM leader John Gourley tells SPIN. “They are my pillars for music and now Al is featuring on one of our songs. Al is America to me. He is for everyone, he has the most diverse fanbase, the guy is in his fifth decade of hit records.” [embedded content] “I’ve jammed with them at Bonnaroo, I’ve produced remixes for two of their songs, ...

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Tries to Rescue the Presidential Debate in ‘We’re All Doomed’

There was a lot to dislike at last night’s presidential debate. That aside, who better to mock and make things a bit better than “Weird Al” Yankovic? The satirist extraordinaire lent his vocals to a track produced by the Gregory Brothers that accurately lampoons last night’s debate. Playing the moderator — in fact, he should have been the moderator — Yankovic sums up this year’s hellfire and brimstone year to the remixed auto-tuned vocals of the presidential candidates in the aptly titled “We’re All Doomed.” If that doesn’t sum it all up, nothing else will. Speaking and then singing over a dance-tinged beat, he opens the song with the accurate statement/question of, “2020 is a raging hellscape/any ideas on how to stop a worldwide plague?” And you can imagine where it go...

The episode is finally upon us. In the clip below, you can see Yankovic as Nugent, with red, white and blue regalia and all. In March, Yankovic denied people’s requests to parody the coronavirus with a version of The Knack’s “My Sharona” but to “My Corona.” He was cl...

David Cross, Bryan Cranston, Jack Black, and Many More Team Up to Sing Weird Al’s ‘Eat It’

Who said good things can’t come from celebrities joining together in song? During the Mr. Show Zoomtacular Annual Business Call Event for Charity, a bunch of comedians and actors covered “Weird Al” Yankovic’s breakthrough hit “Eat It,” which, duh, spoofed Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” Participants included Mr. Show’s David Cross and Bob Odenkirk (and his Better Call Saul co-stars Rhea Seehorn, Michael McKean, and Michael Mando), Bryan Cranston, Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, Fred Armisen, Heid Gardner, Jack Black, Paul Scheer, and former Sen. Al Franken among many, many more. Of course, Yankovic was thrilled with what he saw from the clip, which was titled “We’re All in This Together.” He appeared in it as well. “Truly there’s no problem that can’t be overcome when you get a bunch of ...
