Joyous New Yorkers poured into the streets Saturday after Democrat Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump to win the White House, erupting in celebration as the business mogul and former star of The Apprentice was told: “You’re fired.” Revelers cheered across a city that has sparred for years with the president who rose to prominence in the New York real estate. A reliable Democratic stronghold, the US financial capital’s disdain for the Republican’s policies was no secret. In Manhattan residents yelled and clapped, some waving flags and others banging pots from their balconies as car horns punctuated the applause. Catherine Griffin cried tears of joy outside with one of her two kids, telling AFP: “I’m happy that Trump has gone from our lives, hopefully forever.” “Having a little normalcy back in...
Polls in US battleground states began to close on Tuesday, inching the contest between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden to its nail-biting conclusion, following a race fought in unprecedented conditions of a global pandemic and the most deeply divided electorate in decades. At 7:00 pm (0000 GMT), voting ended in Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia, Vermont, and also Georgia, a formerly rock-solid Republican state that Biden’s Democrats hope to flip. CNN and NBC already projected a win for Trump in Indiana. Parts of Florida — an even bigger electoral prize that routinely sees knife-edge elections — were also closing at 7:00 pm. Polls in the rest of the state and also in Pennsylvania, another ground zero in US presidential contests, were closing at 8:00 pm (0100 GMT). What was no...
Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden cast his ballot in the US presidential race Wednesday in Delaware, six days before the end of a turbulent campaign pitting him against incumbent Donald Trump. The former vice president entered the Delaware State Building in Wilmington where he joined the record number of Americans who have voted early or by mail — 74 million as of Wednesday — as people seek to avoid crowded polling stations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Shortly before voting Biden said he hopes he and other Democrats on the ballot would get elected so that they can “change things” and “make it better” for everyday Americans. Agence France-Presse China, Russia and Iran have rejected accusations by software giant, Microsoft, that hackers from their countries are targeting U.S. presidential campaigns ahead of the November elections. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman suggested on Friday that Microsoft and the U.S. were inventing the allegations. “With regard to the U.S. elections, I have repeatedly said the U.S. elections are an internal matter and we have no interest or intention of interfering.” A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry made a similar statement on Friday, saying that it didn’t matter to Tehran who won the election. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Microsoft’s conclusions didn’t require attention as long as there was no proof, according to the TASS news agency. The countries listed b...
President Donald Trump told voters just outside his opponent Joe Biden’s Pennsylvania birthplace that the Democrat has sold out American workers and would be a “nightmare” if he got into power. Biden is “your worst nightmare,” Trump told the crowd in Old Forge, just down the road from Biden’s old hometown of Scranton. “He spent the last half century in Washington selling out our country and ripping off our jobs and letting other countries steal our jobs,” Trump said hours before Biden was to address the nation and accept the Democratic nomination for the White House. Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty Tensions are higher and even higher when it comes to the political climate. One official made it clear she is not the one. One of the most polarizing White House officials got put in her place for talking slick. On Thursday, July 16 Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany addressed the eyesore that is the gun violence problem in Chicago. When discussing the issue she took a very clear shot at Mayor Lori Lightfoot calling her the “the derelict mayor of Chicago”. Additionally, she inferred that she was too incompetent to decelerate the murder rate. Brian Bennett, Senior White House Correspondent for Time Magazine reported on the jab via Twitter. This apparently got back to the former lawyer prompting her to respond to the shade. “Hey, Karen. Watch your mout...
Kanye West has reportedly dropped out of the 2020 presidential race less than two weeks after announcing his bid for the White House. On Tuesday, Steve Kramer, a member of West’s campaign team, told Intelligencer that after amassing a 180-strong campaign team in Florida, the rapper would allegedly no longer be contesting the election. “He’s out,” Kramer said, telling the publication that he was in the process of getting “all our stuff cancelled”. He later added: “I have nothing good or bad to say about Kanye. Any candidate running for president for the first time goes through these hiccups.” According to the report, West had attempted to get his name on the ballot as a third-party candidate, but needed to collect 132,781 signatures by Wednesday (15 July) to be eligible to run in Florida.
