The historic Cherry Lane Theatre has recently reopened its doors and is launching a new live video series titled “Sound Check at Cherry Lane Theatre,” with a premiere performance from Tame Impala. This special marks the first live performance of the album opener “My Old Ways”. The show follows the release of Tame Impala’s highly anticipated album, Deadbeat, and also includes new songs “Loser” and “Dracula”.

The intimate performance was recorded on the iconic Cherry Lane stage. It was directed by Sean Durkin, known for his work on The Iron Claw and Martha Marcy May Marlene. A24, A24 Music, and the Cherry Lane Theatre produced the film. This new series is set to air on A24’s YouTube channel. The series already launched last week with a performance from Mark William Lewis, A24 Music’s first signed artist.

The Cherry Lane Theatre itself was purchased in 2023 and has since undergone a multi-year renovation, updating all technical equipment, installing new seating, and upgrading the lobby. While the iconic stage and historic details remain intact, the space has also welcomed a new bar restaurant, Wild Cherry, from acclaimed restaurateurs Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr. More performances in the “Sound Check” series are imminent.
