Tame Impala Officially Announces New Album ‘Deadbeat’

Summary

  • Tame Impala announced his fifth album, Deadbeat, which is set for release on October 17
  • The album is inspired by Australian rave culture and features “club-psych explorations”
  • It explores themes of self-medication and represents a shift in his lyrical focus

Tame Impala, the celebrated project of Kevin Parker, has officially announced his fifth full-length album, Deadbeat, set to arrive on October 17.

The new record — his first in over five years — sees Parker crafting a collection of “wickedly potent club-psych explorations” , inspired by Australia’s bush doof culture and rave scene. The album reveals a newfound mastery and spontaneity from the renowned perfectionist, showcasing a more playful vocal range and distinct minimalism.

The announcement arrives on the heels of the new single, “Loser,” and its accompanying music video starring actor and musician Joe Keery/Djo. Lyrically, Deadbeat focuses on the emotional minutiae of everyday life, a shift from the macro examination of time on the previous album, The Slow Rush. This new music finds Parker exploring the idea of “self-medication in lieu of self-care,” setting his introspective narratives to a euphoric, body-moving soundtrack.

Deadbeat drops October 17.
