For years now, Taylor Swift has occupied a level of fame all her own, rewriting record books with a regularity that turns milestones into routine. During an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night, Swift was asked who she turns to for advice, which led to a brief discussion about career longevity and why Swift has no interest in leaving the spotlight.
Praising producer and close confidant Max Martin for his endless reinvention, Swift used it as an opportunity to swipe at critics who say she’s overexposed. “I think there are certain corners of our society that love that and really look up to longevity. There are also corners that are like ‘Give someone else a turn! Can’t you just go away so we can talk about how good you were?’ And like… I don’t want to!”
