First of all, I am very much aware that Marimekko isn’t exactly a ‘hot off the press’ brand—in fact, according to its website, it’s been around since 1951, outstripping my lifetime by a good 40 years. Not too shabby really. Unusually, it’s one of those brands that hasn’t ever really deviated from its original formula: aka fashion designs in vibrant, abstract prints. Long before the likes of Stine Goya or Ganni, Finnish-based Marimekko was repping the Scandi aesthetic.
