TOHO Animation Announces New 'Godzilla' Anime Series in Production

Summary

  • TOHO Animation announced that a new Godzilla anime series is in production with studios Orange and Igloo
  • The show will feature a boy who possesses the power of Godzilla

TOHO Animation confirmed at Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2025 that a new Godzilla anime series is in production. The series is set to be a joint production by studio Orange, known for Godzilla Singular Point, and Thailand-based Igloo Studio.

During the announcement, Keiji Ota, TOHO’s Chief Godzilla Officer, unveiled concept art and stated: “This work is a first for the franchise, featuring a boy who possesses the power of Godzilla, and we believe it will be able to more deeply portray both the fear and hope of the modern era.” This indicates a potential shift toward a shonen anime-style plot, diverging from the franchise’s most recent animated entry.

The last Godzilla animation was Godzilla Singular Point, which premiered on Netflix in 2021. That series centered on two strangers—graduate student Mei Kamino and engineer Yun Arikawa—brought together by a mysterious lullaby to investigate the sudden, global appearance of monsters. This series blended scientific concepts with action, as the protagonists raced to prevent a world-ending catastrophe with the arrival of Godzilla.

As of writing, additional information about the anime project has not been disclosed. Stay tuned for further updates.
