TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Unveils GR GT and GR GT3 Flagships

Summary

  • TOYOTA GAZOO Racing unveiled the GR GT (road-legal) and GR GT3 (race-spec) flagships, continuing the legacy of models like the Lexus LFA
  • Both feature a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine (over 650 PS) and Toyota’s first all-aluminum body frame
  • Development was advanced under a “one-team approach” focused on low weight, low center of gravity, and aerodynamic performance

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) has officially unveiled two groundbreaking flagship models, the GR GT and its FIA GT3-spec race variant, the GR GT3. These twin supercars embody TGR’s philosophy of engineering “ever-better motorsports-bred cars,” continuing the lineage of legends like the Toyota 2000GT and Lexus LFA.

At the heart of both machines is the newly developed 4.0-liter, V8 twin-turbo engine, a powerplant that achieves maximum system output of 650 PS (641 horsepower) and over 850 Nm of torque. This formidable power is paired with groundbreaking architecture: the GR GT features Toyota’s first-ever all-aluminum body frame for high rigidity and light weight, contributing to an ideal 45:55 front-to-rear weight distribution.

The development was a collaborative “one-team approach,” advanced under Master Driver Akio Toyoda (Morizo), who worked in unison with professional drivers and engineers. The core focus was achieving three key elements: low weight, low center of gravity, and optimal aerodynamic performance.

The GR GT was conceived as a road-legal race car, while the GR GT3 is its uncompromising sibling, engineered for customers who demand race-winning capabilities in the top category of customer motorsports. Both models are the result of veterans transferring crucial car-making skills to a younger generation, ensuring the brand’s “secret sauce” of performance continues into the future. The two flagships are slated for launch around 2027.
