Donald Trump says he has yet to decide whether to pardon Sean “Diddy” Combs for his sex crimes conviction, admitting that Combs being “very hostile to me” during his first term is playing a role in the decision.
The president made the comments during an interview on Newsmax on Friday, where he was specifically asked whether he’s considering pardoning Combs. “Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half innocent. [He’s] still in jail or something, but he was celebrating a victory. But I guess it wasn’t as good of a victory,” Trump said of Combs’ sex crimes case, in which he was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. However, Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking.
“I was very friendly with [Combs. Seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well.” Trump continued. “But when I ran for office, he was very hostile — and it’s hard. We don’t like to have things cloud our judgment, right? So I don’t know. It’s more difficult.”

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Trump was “seriously considering” pardoning Combs, who faces up to 20 years in prison. Past reporting suggested that Combs’ team was hoping to appeal to Trump by drawing a comparison between their shared stories — two successful businessmen supposedly targeted by federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York with “baseless” accusations of sexual assault.
Combs’ sentencing date is set for October 3rd.
Q: Sean Diddy Combs. Would you consider pardoning him?
Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half innocent. Probably— I was very friendly with him but when I ran for office he was very hostile and it’s hard. So, I don’t know, it’s more difficult.
