Twitter Is Testing a New Direct Message Feature on Tweets

Twitter Is Testing a New Direct Message Feature on Tweets

Twitter is testing a new feature on iOS that will allow users to send Direct Messages (DMs) to an author directly from their tweet.

“For when you want to reply directly to a Tweet’s author, we’re making it easier to DM them from your timeline to start a conversation,” the platform wrote on its support account. “Now testing a DM icon on Tweets with some of you on iOS.”

Instead of having to click on a user’s profile to send a DM, the new feature will streamline the process by allowing users to leave a message on a tweet directly from their timeline.

“This particular experiment is not changing the current settings of anyone’s DMs,” Charlotte Catania, a spokesperson for Twitter, told The Verge. “We’re always exploring ways to make DMs more accessible and valuable for people on Twitter, and they will always remain in control: anyone has the ability to close their DMs in their settings.”

The test is currently in progress for select users on iOS only. Stay tuned for more information on the feature.

In other tech news, Apple will reportedly hold a hardware event next month.
