NEON has debuted the official full trailer for Oldboy director Park Chan-wook‘s upcoming film, NO OTHER CHOICE.
The satirical black comedy thriller is based on Donald E. Westlake’s novel THE AX and sees Lee Byung-hun (Mr. Sunshine, Squid Game) in the lead role of You Man-su, a paper industry expert with 25 years under his belt. A family man who lives happily with his wife Mi-ri (Son Ye-jin), their two kids and two dogs, he gets the shock of his life when he suddenly gets laid off by his longtime employer.
He makes it a goal to be employed again in the next three months in order to support his family, but ends up in a dead-end job for more than a year while attending other job interviews. His desperation leads him to seek out the rival paper company Moon Paper, where he gets humiliated by the foreman. Man-su is certain that he’s the only man for the job, so he eliminates the competition.
The film competed for the Golden Lion at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and made its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. It also opened the 30th Busan International Film Festival earlier this September, and will play as part of the Main Slate at the 2025 New York Film Festival.
