Predator: Badlands opens the weekend’s box office on top with a $40 million USD domestic debut, setting a new record for the franchise.

According to Variety, the film’s opening numbers overtook Alien vs. Predator’s original record of $38 million USD. The film also earned an additional $40 million USD from the global box office for a grand total of $80 million USD against a $105 million USD budget.

“‘Predator: Badlands’ shows how unpredictable and dynamic the marketplace can be. All it takes is one over-performance to get the industry back on track,” said Comscore’s head of marketplace trends Paul Dergarabedian. “This is a great lead in for what promises to be one of the better months of November for the industry.”

Badlands stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi in the lead roles. The synopsis reads, “Cast out from its clan, an alien hunter and an unlikely ally embark on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.”
