Spotify Unveils Major Update With Expanded Song Credits

Summary

  • Spotify expanded Song Credits to include all track contributors, from engineers to mixers
  • New features SongDNA and About the Song provide deeper context and map song connections
  • The update aims to give all creators the recognition they deserve

Spotify is rolling out a major update to enrich its listeners’ experience with the expansion of Song Credits and the introduction of two new features: SongDNA and About the Song.

The existing Song Credits feature, which previously only showed topline performance, songwriting, and production credits, is being significantly expanded. It will now include all contributors to a track, from producers and engineers to songwriters and featured artists. To support this update, Spotify released a video where Charlie Puth endorses the expansion, stating it will foster a “deeper connection between the song and the people who listen to it,” and ensure deserving creators receive proper recognition.

Further enhancing context, SongDNA is an interactive view that maps out connections between songs. This feature will display collaborators, samples, and covers all in one place, enabling listeners to delve into the influences behind the music they enjoy.

Additionally, About the Song offers a deeper context behind any track. Accessible via swipeable cards in the “Now Playing” view, this feature gives listeners insight into the stories and cultural impact of the songs they are listening to.
