Vince Zampella, a video game developer best known for co-creating the Call of Duty franchise, was killed Sunday in a single-car accident. He was 55 years old.
NBC Los Angeles reports that Zampella was driving on Southern California’s Angeles Crest Highway when it veered off the road and hit a concrete barrier. He was trapped in an ensuing car fire and died at the scene. A passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died from their injuries at a hospital. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Zampella was a co-founder of the video game developer Infinity Ward, which created the Call of Duty franchise. He later co-founded Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind successful game titles including Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
