The landscape of prestige television continues to favor authentic storytelling as HBO Max officially greenlights a third season of the medical drama The Pitt. The announcement arrived via Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, during the show’s season two premiere event in Los Angeles.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt offers a sophisticated and realistic examination of the systemic challenges facing American healthcare workers. Set against the backdrop of a modern hospital’s emergency department in Pittsburgh, the series features ER alum Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, leading a cast that includes Patrick Ball, Sepideh Moafi, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez.
Each episode plays out as one hour in the show, meaning that each season only equates to one day in the hospital. While season one followed a regular shift in the ED, season two takes place during a high-stake Fourth of July.
