The Black Crowes Premiere Russ Meyer-Inspired Video for "Profane Prophecy"

The Black Crowes recently announced their new album, A Pound of Feathers, while releasing the singles “Profane Prophecy” and “Pharmacy Chronicles.” Now, the veteran rockers are premiering the music video for “Profane Prophecy” right here at Consequence.

The video was inspired by the movies of legendary exploitation filmmaker Russ Meyer, and directed by artist/musician
Dagger Polyester. It depicts singer Chris Robinson and guitarist Rich Robinson performing amid a devilish pack of eccentric characters, all leading up to an ending that would make Alice Cooper proud.

“‘Profane Prophecy’ is about the devil you know, the devil you never knew, the devil inside of me and devil inside of you,” stated Chris Robinson. “The mischief and madness in the beautiful expression that is rock n roll… and you can dance to it.”

Dagger Polyester added, “In the video for ‘Profane Prophecy,’ the Black Crowes have conjured seven devils (representing each deadly sin) to wreak havoc on this little fairytale world of stark morality and harsh retribution. In creating this world, we leaned into uncanniness with hyper-unrealistic theatrical set pieces and life size dioramas.”

The director continued, “Everyone in the cast and crew are integral members of our little underground, experimental art scene here in Los Angeles. We rely on one another to make music, movies and art with virtually no budget. As a community, we don’t usually have clearly defined roles; for example, I’m usually doing makeup, costumes, choreography, lighting, you name it. It was a huge opportunity for us to work with the Crowes, especially in a time where the real hero-freaks of the underground go largely unsung.”

In support of A Pound of Feathers (out March 13th), the Black Crowes will head out on a tour of Australia and Japan this spring, followed by a UK/European jaunt in June and July. After that, the band will support Guns N’ Roses on four North American dates in August and September (pick up tickets here).
