Melissa Auf der Maur Announces Even the Good Girls Will Cry Book Tour

Melissa Auf der Maur (former Hole bassist and Smashing Pumpkins touring member) is set to release her very first book, Even the Good Girls Will Cry: A ’90s Rock Memoir on March 17th. In support, she’s bringing the mighty memoir on the road for book tour.

The outing kicks off on the book’s release date at Strand Bookstore in New York City, where Auf der Maur will be joined in conversation by writer Naomi Fry. From there, the musician will visit Hudson, New York at Basilica Hudson (which she helped co-found) as well as Toronto, Chicago, and her hometown of Montreal by the end of March. There’s also a UK leg scheduled for early April, with details to be announced in the near future.

A press release for the tour said each event will be an “intimate night with Melissa, a reading, and conversation, followed by [a] book signing.” There will also be a xMAdMx Darkwave DJ set afterward, with Auf der Maur “pull[ing] you onto the dance floor with the darkest, sweetest synths from the ’80s ʻtil present.” More moderators and special guests will be announced leading up to the first tour date/event.

Even the Good Girls Will Cry is described as “part coming-of-age autobiography, part travel diary, part psychedelic scrapbook.” It also features rare, behind-the-scenes photos from throughout Auf der Maur’s music career, which began with her first band, the Canadian alternative rock group Tinker. Pre-orders are ongoing.

“This book is about the decade that defined me and my generation, 1991-2001, and my life in the rock bands which allowed me to have a front row seat to an incredibly visceral and unforgettable moment in the counterculture,” Auf der Maur explained in a statement. “It’s a love letter to the power of music and one-of-a-kind voices that make the world a cooler place; it’s also an ode to the analog, and what magic has been lost. Sharing what our generation witnessed, and what the world once was, in my hope of building a more livable future together.”
