Burna Boy Sparks Heated Debate Over London Stadium Sell-Outs

Burna Boy has found himself back in the spotlight after making a statement about Nigerian artists and London stadium sell-outs that quickly set social media buzzing.

The Afrobeats star sparked fresh debate while presenting his official London Stadium Sold Out Plaque to Engineer Matthew Tonlagha during Tonlagha’s 50th birthday celebration.

What was meant to be a heartfelt tribute to a mentor and close associate soon took on a life of its own, largely because of the confident way Burna Boy framed his achievement.

While handing over the plaque, the African Giant reflected on the moment and its significance, saying:

“In 2023, as we all know, I was the only one that attempted and succeeded in selling out the London stadium in Africa… This right here means history, and you are history.”

The plaque marks Burna Boy’s June 2023 Love, Damini tour stop, a landmark show that saw him become the first African artist to headline and sell out the 80,000-capacity London Stadium.

Almost immediately, the comment reignited conversations online, with fans and critics

revisiting the long-running “Big Three” rivalry involving Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. As expected, reactions have been split, some applauding Burna Boy’s confidence and historic feat, others questioning the wording of his claim.

One thing, however, is clear: whenever Burna Boy speaks about his milestones, the conversation is never far behind.
