On Thursday, Alysa Liu became the first American woman to win Olympic singles figure skating gold in 24 years, thanks in part to her short program routine set to Laufey’s “Promise” from earlier in the week. As it turns out, the skater and Icelandic singer have a personal connection dating back to a 2025 concert, which Liu attended in her competition dress.
During Laufey’s San Francisco concert on September 30th, 2025, Liu was spotlighted in the artist’s “Best Dressed Guest” segment while wearing her “Promise” dress and carrying her world championship medal. “You guys, she’s like the best figure skater in the world,” Laufey said. “Do you understand what this means for my eight-year-old figure skating heart?”
