The Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise is officially entering a new era, announcing a brand-new series at the conclusion of its “Evangelion:30+; 30th Anniversary of Evangelion” festival. The surprise reveal, accompanied by a live cello and choral performance, introduced the project as the franchise’s “Next Genesis,” signaling a major expansion beyond the Rebuild films.

As per AnimeNewsNetwork, the upcoming series brings together a powerhouse creative team, blending Evangelion veterans with fresh voices from the gaming and anime worlds. Yoko Taro, the acclaimed creator of the NieR franchise, joins as series script supervisor and scriptwriter. He will be working alongside directors Kazuya Tsurumaki (Rebuild of Evangelion) and Tōko Yatabe (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 assistant director). The musical score will be composed by Keiichi Okabe, known for his haunting work on NieR: Automata.

Animation production will be a collaborative effort between Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara and CloverWorks. While details on the plot remain scarce, the announcement marks the first major serialized project for the franchise since the conclusion of the Rebuild tetralogy.

The 30th-anniversary event also featured the premiere of a new 13-minute short starring Asuka and a performance by original theme song artist Yoko Takahashi, celebrating the enduring legacy of the series while paving the way for its future.
