Netflix Unveils Cast for Live-Action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series

Summary

    • Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action Assassin’s Creed series has officially begun production in Italy
    • The show will feature an original storyline set during the turbulent period of 64 AD in ancient Rome
    • An ensemble cast has been confirmed, with filming taking place at the renowned Cinecittà Studios

Production for Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of the acclaimed Assassin’s Creed video game franchise is officially underway. Both Netflix and Ubisoft confirmed that filming has started in Italy, with the storied Cinecittà Studios in Rome serving as the primary production hub. The massive project is utilizing the studio’s established ancient Rome backlot to authentically capture the historical setting.

The upcoming series promises an original storyline separate from the video games, locking its coordinates on 64 AD. History enthusiasts will recognize this era as the reign of Emperor Nero, culminating in the devastating Great Fire of Rome. The narrative will explore the franchise’s enduring secret war between the Templar Order and the Assassin Brotherhood, who each battle to shape humanity’s future. This timeline notably predates the events of the Italy-based Assassin’s Creed II and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood by over a millennium.

To bring the epic to life, a large ensemble cast has been assembled. It features Toby Wallace, Lola Petticrew, Laura Marcus, Claes Bang, Sean Harris, and Noomi Rapace, alongside newly announced recurring actors Sandra Guldberg-Kampp, Youssef Kerkour, Mirren Mack, and Louis McCartney. Showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener are steering the ambitious project. While Netflix has not yet revealed an exact release date, reports suggest the streaming giant is targeting a launch in 2027 following a projected seven-month shoot.
